Do It Yourself SEO Can Be Disastrous

⊆ November 2nd, 2009 by Atniz | ˜ 10 Comments »

diy-disaster-mistakesThere are so many blog and website owners trying to implement search engine optimization section on their own. Everything is good if we are on right track and not against search engine’s terms and conditions. When it comes to coding, a simple error can lead to fatal results from search engine point of view. I have seen many websites with simple coding error in their web templates lead to error message from Google and completely removed from their listings. Learning SEO can be easy for basic implementations but business complexity is not easy. Some websites provides unique services and functions that need serious attention.

Giving a link to other sites is good and motivates your visitors to visit other sites that you find interesting. If this site marked as bad neighborhood by search engine, your blog or site could get some penalty for giving a link. Sometimes, we don’t have control towards these links as it may appear in templates designer or advertisers link on footer as a credit to the template owners. Randomly choosing templates from any developer for free can lead to this problem. Getting a backlink from page or site that has more than 100 outgoing links will not be helpful. Investing money to get such a backlink considered as flushing away our money.

Too much emphasizing on one keyword or phrase can lead to spamming too. Image that takes ages to load will increase bounce rate. Before implementing new SEO campaign or design, try to get opinion from several people in SEO field. Make use of SEO forums and ask many questions before implementing any new method. It is not an easy task to completely understand SEO concept and that is why SEO services is expensive. If you are totally new to SEO and have established company to get SEOed, I suggest leave the SEO part to the professionals. Sometimes, it is good to let professionals to handle instead do it yourself. We want to improve our ranking, not to make it worse.

October 2009 Blog Income $323.58

⊆ November 1st, 2009 by Atniz | ˜ 14 Comments »

Frankly, I don’t really concentrate on blogging these days. I must agree that working from home and taking care baby is not an easy task. Sometimes, I wish to have 48 hours in a day. The easiest time to take care of a baby is during pregnancy. My son is 2 years old now and he is more demanding than before. My parents are getting older (60+) and they wanted to see their only grandchild frequently these days. Visiting hometown frequently during weekends and holidays time, gives no rest to us. I wish to have more time on blogging but it’s just never gets easy. Let’s stop rambling and get to the income summary list:

Stats for this month:
- 55,000 followers Twitter (11k new followers)
- 285 RSS readers (5 new RSS subscribers)
- Average unique visitors dropped to 400 per day (earlier was 500 per day)

Income for this month:
Review: $150.00
Hosting Affiliate: $100.00
Google Ads: $33.58
125×125 Ads: $40.00
Total: $323.58

Noticed that the blog income drops equally to the time we spend online. I used to spend 8-10 hours a day online, now dropped to 2-3 hours a day. I couldn’t think of any other reason of why my earnings drop tremendously. Luckily, reviews and affiliates saves my earning table this time. Hopefully, I can get more time to work on blog and online in November.

Social media network like Facebook and Twitter is one of fastest growing traffic platforms that gaining almost all age group users. The traffic is huge and each message can be delivered instantly. The owners always look at the bright side of this idea of networking and instant mass messaging. Tweet from a celebrity or politicians might reaches millions of people within seconds. Every single application has its good and the bad side. Twitter has its negative side too that may lead to disaster. Famous celebrities are using Twitter as one of the advertising platform. Each tweet may not be genuine and might be undisclosed paid tweets.

Imagine if someone able to hack Barrack Obama’s twitter account and post some sensitive tweets. It can lead to major disaster depending on the message. The vulnerability of underage in Twitter is not controlled. Almost anyone can send a link in tweets that lead to pornography or unhealthy activities. There is no age group or warnings set for following or followers on any account. There are still some of the profile image have nude pictures for few weeks before removal. Why Should Google Hide Pagerank

⊆ October 30th, 2009 by Atniz | ˜ 15 Comments »

There are a lot of website ranking systems available online and page rank should not be one of it. Alexa, Compete, Quantcast, etc measures ranking from traffic but page rank is from backlinks. It is totally different view and it should not be considered as ranking at all. We can get page rank juice from a dofollow backlink. If the page having high PR, low outbound links, relevant info, then the passing value or PR juice will be heavier. If an administrator owns hundreds of website or blogs that is hosted on separate hosting IP and domain names. He can manipulate pagerank value for a particular website by giving a backlink from hundreds of high pagerank websites with unique IP and domain name.

It may lead that particular website to get good pagerank and it may affect the value of re-selling. Unlike other ranking system, pagerank becoming more visible these days with some tips from Matt Cutts and other SEO experts. This may lead to easy manipulation of pagerank value to any website, thus giving almost no real value. The visibility of pagerank for each page especially higher PR, makes it vulnerable for linkbaits, backlink creation, etc. This motivates link buyers to get only dofollow links which is against Google TOS and may lead to PR penalty for the sellers.

It may be difficult to monitor billions of websites on paid links with dofollow value. So, I can only see one good solution that stops buyers requesting dofollow links. Hiding pagerank value or removing it from public may be the only solution. Pagerank should be internal ranking system in Google and should not be shown to the public. In my opinion, showing pagerank will only lead to more dofollow link sales and purchase in online industry. It may lead to penalty to those innocent sellers who are not aware of dofollow and nofollow attributes or Google TOS.

9 SEO Tips For Video

⊆ October 29th, 2009 by Atniz | ˜ 7 Comments »

seo-for-video-tipsIt is a lot easier to work on SEO for contents compared to image and videos. I’m sure you will find many sites that provide excellent SEO tips for videos. Here is the list of steps that you can follow to make your video search engine friendly.

1. Meta Tags
Google and Yahoo ignores meta keyword but meta description, title, etc still helps. Bing and other search engines still use meta keyword tag. Although, it may not helpful in ranking but it gives clearer picture for viewers to click on your video. So, having a good meta tags like title, description, keywords, date and author will add more value to your video.

2. Naming
Video file name should include all the important keywords and the word “video” in it.

3. Permalinks
Name your video page uniquely with relevant keyphrases in the title and it must be appeared in the permalink URL. Try to have one video file for each page. If you can give link to other related videos with good contextual link, it will certainly help too.

4. Relevant Links
If you post your video on a page or blog post, try to write a simple article that includes important keywords. Also, give a link to related articles and videos using proper contextual links (hyperlinked keywords/keyphrases).

5. Embed Your Video
Don’t give link to the video instead embed the video in your post or page. If you are a visitor referred to the video, you want to see the video directly on the page instead referred to other sites that may have risk of having registration, pop ups, etc.

6. Videos Category
Create a separate category in your website or blog for videos and link all your videos posted on your website or blog in this tag or category. There are some users prefer to view and listen to video instead of reading articles. Making it easier for them to find your videos can help your videos to get more views.

7. Enable Comments
Allow users and viewers to comment on your video. You can set number of comments shown per page. This keeps your video as a debatable and gets more attention.

8. Multiple Formats
There are some users may not have correct plugin to play your video. Of course, we are not talking about youtube videos here. Downloadable videos with various format option like .mp4, .flv, .mov, etc will be more helpful.

9. Social Bookmarking
Include social bookmarking icons or tools such as Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc. Also have an option to email or share with friends. This allows your video to go viral with social networking traffics.

Onsite Or Offsite SEO

⊆ October 28th, 2009 by Atniz | ˜ 7 Comments »

This is a common question when it comes to SEO. There are so many expert in SEO field have different views. We can declare that this is one of the most debatable topics in SEO field. There is no specific answer to this question. All we can give is personal opinion towards the current situation for a website. Personally, I have explained a lot about link building and even tag it differently from SEO on my sidebar. Link building itself is one big topic that needs good attention in SEO point of view. I have written a lot of blog post about link building, backlinks, as well as SEO is all about backlinks and link building.

However, there are others who still believe that onsite SEO and good interlinking between pages are most important factor in SEO. Personally, if I visit a site that is referred from Google for specific terms, I want to see related links and precise contents. Matt Cutts ask SEO pros to treat search engine as human. Deliver data and links that beneficial to the visitors and it will help in ranking too. Interlink all the relevant pages with proper “anchored keywords or keyphrases” on each pages as it will help in ranking and SEO.

Personally, I believe onsite SEO including interlinking internal pages with proper keyphrases are the basic housekeeping. The better onsite SEO with proper contents and interlinks will certainly hold the visitors longer on our site. A small number of relevant backlinks with link building activity will do the magic based on competition level. Again, when we compete with the well SEOed sites that exists for years with thousands of internal pages well linked and adding new contents daily, we need some extra magic. This is where link building comes handy. So, I would say 90% offsite SEO (backlinks) and 10% onsite SEO importance level shares here. What do you think?
