Keywords are extremely important when it comes to search engine optimization. In fact, many webmaster have similar question in the beginning of website development phase. Taking note that search engines uses keywords on our website to index and rank our website which in turn will draw more organic traffic. Placing vital keywords in appropriate place will help the search engines understand better about our site’s niche and services about. There are no human behind Google’s algorithm that filters keyword to index and rank in SERP ranking.

If you run a flash based website, where most of your vital articles and contents in flash, then it will be difficult for search engine to index or rank your site. Flash is a big NO when it comes to SEO and contents. You can use flash to demonstrate images or key points about your website. The content should be in HTML format. Using your keywords in website page or blog post will help readers to get benefited. Viewing unrelated sites which contains non-relevant keywords will make users exit upon entry. So, making use of only relevant keywords on your websites or blog posts scattered in content section will help draw more targeted visitors from search engines.

Firstly, we need to emphasis on title meta tag. This is extremely important section where we need to place our strongest keyword in title tag. Title tag also helps in boosting ranking factor in SERP. If your blog or website in high authority, then you will get immediate high rank position for any new blog post with targeted keywords in title tags. Of course, it is also depending on the competition. But, in most cases high authority blogs or websites tend to high ranking within short period of time for any new blog post or articles posted. We can easily get the top 10 spot for low competitive keywords by just adding the keywords in title tags without single backlinks.

Meta description is another section where we need to emphasize keyword placement section. However, meta descriptions does not help to increase SERP ranking or delivers any SEO benefits at all. It is purely meant for surfers to get brief view about your page. Google search engine will show a snippet of 160 characters in their search results for any page. It is to help the searcher to visit pages that they are looking for. Writing secondary keywords or synonyms in meta description will be extremely useful too. Avoid repeating the same set of keywords that have been used in meta title in meta description. Using unique set of keywords in meta descriptions gives more room for your article or page introductory.

Finally, guide on placing keywords in the content section where you don’t have to stuff your article with all important keywords. Creating one unique article based on one to two keywords will be a wise choice. Also, keeping the keyword repetition or keyword density at 2% will make your article look natural. Ie; Inserting two words keyword phrase in every 100 words in length article. If you have 3 words keyword phrase, then repeat it once in every 150 words length of article. However, you can make use of other secondary keywords in your article. Also, try to post extremely relevant contents near to the keyword location. If you are planning to insert the keyword in first paragraph, then give your best relevant contents surrounds it.

The reason why I don’t touch about meta keywords is that it does not really helpful in SERP ranking, SEO or user experience. However, stuffing meta keywords with an array of keywords can lead to SEO penalty. Top search engines like Google and Yahoo have stopped using meta keywords in ranking factors. Meta keywords are not helpful but can be painful if we stuff it. So, it is best to ignore meta keywords and concentrate on other factors. But, if you have enough time to post meta keywords, then try to keep it at 4-5 keywords per page in meta keywords.

  1. I just started a personal blog, just for fun and a past time. The only keywords I have are the words I used in blogger. Is that enough or do I need to put this too?

I really don’t know if this is true: “The reason why I don’t touch about meta keywords is that it does not really helpful in SERP ranking, SEO or user experience. However, stuffing meta keywords with an array of keywords can lead to SEO penalty.

Do you have any supporting articles for the above saying that “Top search engines like Google and Yahoo have stopped using meta keywords in ranking factors.”

    Thanks.
