First real problem might be the blog template itself. Badly coded blog templates and templates which are flash based tends to take longer time to load. So its a good idea to try and change your template to a better one check how your blog performs under this new theme.

If you are using too many image files in your blog homepage or in your posts, its highly likely that your blog pages will take longer time to load. Good way to avoid this problem would be use images which are compressed to jpeg or gif formats. Also hosting your images on a cloud server can prove really solve the problem.

Its a good practice to keep the plugin and widgets usage to the minimum. Excessive usage of plugins means more codes that needs to be processed by the server hence leads to longer page loading time. Use plugins that are really essential and avoid unwanted ones.

Junky database might also result in slower loading pages in wordpress, best way to combat this problem is to remove the overhead space by browsing through phpmyadmin and optimize your database for better performance. Also deleting the tables of unused to plugins can also prove to make database lighter and result in smooth functioning of your blog.
5. Bad Server
If you think you have tried all things that has been mentioned above and still find your blog to load a lot slower, it could well point out to the fact that your blog is hosted on a server that is really bad and doesn’t process the user requests quickly. Many thanks for the great list with plugins, i have some favourites to, like the all known “All IN SEO “and also the easy privacy policy and also SEO friendly images (got some good results with it)and lastly pretty links (great for cloacking) affiliate links…
Some themes are weighted with extra PHP code that slows down a site, but widgets are really a problem too.
Make sure you use a good caching plugin like W3 Total Cache which I highly recommend.
