Selecting keywords for your SEO campaign is extremely important factor. It is the deciding factor that will either show you greater results or simply flushing away your time, effort and money. Choosing bad type of keywords will definitely ruin your interest in online advertising. Getting advice from inexperienced link builder or SEO professional might lead you to target high competition keywords that will not deliver targeted traffic as well. This is a bad selection where you will definitely going to waste all your investment for the next few months or years depending on the competition level. Choosing a reliable SEO service as a partner for your campaign is crucial.

Going after short keywords is another bad selection. When you type on Google search for a keyword in the search box, you will see a list of long tail keywords suggested by Google. Well, this is not entirely created by machines or any algorithm. It is created by the users like you and me for a specific answer that they are looking for. If you want to experiment, just click on any long tail keywords and check out the search results. You will get results where the contents might have these keywords scattered separately but able to show first in the search results. All you need to do is write a useful blogpost using this suggested long tail keyword you just found and post it on your blog.

Within next few hours, run a query for the same keyword and you will be able to see your post in the first page (depending on the competition). So, do not choose the short keywords as it will take longer time and more resources and backlinks to reach first page. While, you can get micro niche targeted visitors to your website by tackling multiple long tail keywords and provide contents that direct to the point. Visitors will love your site for delivering what they need and it may also attract some organic backlinks.

Blogging for SEO is the most working formula for any online business. Here you will have the ability to manage your contents easily. So, update your blog consistently with relevant contents using long tail keywords in titles and low repetition in content section. Each time you deliver new content, try to tackle one micro niche or one long tail keyword. Sometimes, the long tail keyword can be in length of 5-8 words. You can also run a simple analysis using Google Adwords Keyword External tool for the volume this keyword receives.

Going after long tail keyword in your industry will build trust and authority to your site and your will soon able to increase ranking for some one or two words keyword. Google and other search engines hates spamming. So, do not stuff your articles with these keywords. Try to use it only once but if you are writing long article with above 500 words length, you can use it twice. I do not suggest you to use more than two times of your targeted keyword in any article which may trigger keyword stuffing penalty from search engines.

After get your articles published either on a blog or ezine sites, using social bookmarking service will help your article gain back links which will increase trust and authority in search engine. 1. Youre right Atniz. I saw somewhere that statistic about how first place gets ~40% of clicks and 4-9th not more than 2-3%. Im gona give up for now on getting first place for that 3 word keyword because sites on first 2 places are too big for me. I’ll try hitting long tail keywords trough articles more and more. Just got one more traffic bringer trough some new tutorial i wrote and i wont care much about sales atm. Ill try to build some authority first, we’ll see :)

What are the long tail keywords? I think my keywords aren’t enough to build traffic to my site. How do I choose the perfect words that are related to my business or website?

    • Atniz says:

Using Google keyword tool and check for low volume monthly average traffic keywords. Or, the any four or five or more words in length keyword phrases that have lower than 1k monthly average traffic volume. Target this keyword as it is relatively easy to rank top 10 or 1st place and able to draw consistent traffic. Doing this to multiple set of keywords will give a better boom to our organic traffic referred from search.

Tnx for the tips Atniz ill try that. I already have one long tail keyword on first page of google that brings me solid traffic. But that one is from my tutorial and the traffic i get from it is not, whats the word, payable? Those guys are not there to buy my product, they dont even click on my google ads. They want to make a similar product by themselves or they are just interested to read about it. I’ll try to hit other payable long tail keywords now too.
As for Adwords tool, two months ago i started SEO-ing for 3 words keyword that has 4400 monthly searches according to Adwords tool. I managed to climb to 4th position in google and im getting only 4-5 hits a day, that cant be right, right?
    Tnx for replying :)

You’re always welcome, Selina. Choosing a proper converting keywords is important. That is why some SEO companies charging nearly 4 figures just to choose converting keywords for the company. Most companies will give it a try with Google Adwords first with their targeted keywords and check for conversion. Any keyword that brings up more conversion rates will be sent to SEO to rank higher in Google to get organic traffic which will eventually bring more conversion. It is good you manage to get 4th place ranking within 3 months for a 4.4k average monthly volume keyword. The percentage of clicks received from top 10 ranking can be different. However, almost 40% clicks can be gathered from 1st place. Clicks on fourth place ranking relatively low. So, to work your way to first place ranking to see better hits.

Can you tell me what tool are you using to check keywords popularity other than google adwords because i dont its very reliable. I also use some of online tools that comes closer to my own results but theyre not very accurate either. For example they can show that there is zero searches for some of my keywords while i get 10-15 daily clicks from google for those keywords being 5th on google’s first page.

      Selina,

I don’t use any other keyword tool than Google Adwords tool. If you are targeting long tail keywords, I suggest use Google search engine. It will show long tail keywords that users typed even before you complete typing it in search box. Long tail keywords are easy to rank and will deliver few clicks in a day but continuously doing it for long term, you are establishing your blog in Google with increase traffic. Using keyword popularity tool, we can select much higher level competition keywords.
