7 Ways To Fresh UP

During weekends, I often travel back to home town either mine of my spouse’s. We just want to spend some time with our parents and let them spend some time together with their grandchildren. Driving for hours on straight road make us feel sleepy. The same way when we are forced to work long hours to meed deadline in the office. Some may need to work during night following their work shift and required to stay alert. Whatever reason might be, staying alert is like forcing yourself to work more which is not good for long term. There are several ways to stay fresh which I believe it can keep us awake for hours or even days. Here is the list of methods that you can apply to stay alert:

1. Wash Your Face
Whenever you feel sleepy, wash your face. Do a little massage for your face too. This will help you fresh again and it may last a couple of hours. I always does this whenever I feel sleepy driving car or work late night. It’s like giving a fresh new air for yourself. In most of the time, it works but never helps for long hours.

2. Chewing Gum
This is one of my favorite method to stay awake. Also, eating something like prunes, oranges, fruits, etc can help us keep awake too. Eating light food that is low in calorie will not make us feel tired. Digesting heavy foods like chicken, mutton, rice, etc will even worsen our tiredness and we may sleep right after eating heavy meals. So, keep chewing gum if possible and eat light foods. Even, junk food will be helpful here.

3. Pumping & Stretching
This method used by my husband. Whenever he feels sleepy driving car, he will immediately stop the car and do some stretching and light pumping. He says, exercise makes him feel active and keep him active. I am not sure how far this works, but I don’t do it. Maybe, this is not meant for women.

4. Listening To Songs
I always turn on my radio during driving or working late night. Sometimes, it will not help too. Whenever you drive, if your passengers or person beside you sleeps, most probably you will feel sleepy. Turning on radio loudly when someone is sleeping is not really morale. But, I don’t bother about them. I still turn on the volume as high as possible and let the music and news or jokes on air keep me awake during the journey.

5. Starbucks Coffee
Immediately drop to your closest coffee shop and get a large coffee take away before drive or work at night. Having a sip by sip will help keep us stay awake. You can also ask the coffee maker to put extra coffee which is bitter and better to make us awake. The more caffeine is the better to cut sleep.

6. Joke With Other
Having a good and short conversation like joking and having a great laugh once in a while during work or driving will keep us awake too. But, this depends on your partner’s chemistry as well. It is not easy to find a partner that works or travels together that talks jokes. Sometimes, boring stories can work vice-versa. It may make us feel more sleepy. So, it is your own risk. I wouldn’t take this kind of risk because I have better choice.

7. Taste <1.5v Battery
I used to this during my school days among friends. We used to connect the battery with wires and taste it. It passes 1.5v power and your saliva is a very good electric conductor. This will give a immediate boost and mental alert. However, I have never try this method after my school days. One must have the guts to even try this method. I guess, a real Jackass can do this.

There you go with a list of methods that can keep you awake for long hours. If you want to drive long distance or work for extra hours, be sure to be equipped with ideas above to keep you active. If you have any new method, share it here.

  1. Songs/listening to music has often helped me out on those weary days. Even in pain and extreme stress, listening to a good song can magically lift me up.

Hey Atniz, here’s #8–change your blog theme, lol. I just released a free WordPress theme based on the Hybrid Theme Framework. It’s available at my site for download. Let me know what you think of it!

    cheers,

I use the good old 5 hour energy drink to stay awake on long trips and times when I just need extra energy. I don’t think I would like the battery idea.
