Having a blog is a great thing for many of us. But, what does really drive us to continue blogging? It is not the money, fame or fans. The answer is comments. It is the only way to know that there are some real person read your writings and they share their point of view. It is the only motivation that can keep us blogging for a long time. Most of the time, we tend to give up blogging just because no comments on our blog for months. I have seen bloggers who never gets a comment on their blog for more than 6 months. Comments also help us to build user generated unique contents to our blog. More contents brings better SEO benefit. There are ways to get more comments on our blog. Let us explore on ways to get more comments on our blog.

1. Replying Comments
Getting comments is the ultimate goal. What you should do once you get the comments on your blog? We should reply our comments to show appreciation to our commentators. How you feel when you don’t receive any comments in your blog? It is the same way our commentators will feel if their comment does not get any reply. Not all bloggers reply comments in their blog. Replying comments on your blog will certainly make you look unique and look like a serious blogger. Also, make sure your reply have been notified to the commentators. This will draw more returning visitors. There are plenty of plugins available that automatically send an email to commentators who gets new reply.

2. Top Commentators
Having top commentators widget shown on sidebar encourage commentators to comment more. This will also increase the number of RSS subscribers to keep monitoring our blog for new posts. This will eventually increase visit count and comments in long run. If you give a dofollow backlink to your commentators shown sidewide, it may help better. I noticed some top blogs with PR6+ even gives 10 slots for top commentators, sidewide and able to get hundreds of comments for their new blog posts.

3. Recent Comments
Recent comment is available in default for wordpress blogs. It is a quick appreciation to our new comments. It may not stay on sidebar for weeks or months but it may deliver some SEO benefits since it gives temporary backlink to our commentators. This is another way to attract more comments to our blog. Plus, recent comments will give a quick benefit to our new commentators to get some backlink juice before competing ranks in top commentators widget.

4. Comment Relish
This plugin will send a welcome message or newsletter type of email to all our new commentators. It shows appreciation to our new commentators. It is an automated message that have been sketched according to our preferences. Personally, I receive some replies to this messages too. You can even compile all your important products or services in this newsletter. However, sales kind of articles or message might not help and could damage your profile to new visitors. So, keep it short and sweet and the main message should show appreciation to our new commentators instead of pushing some affiliate products or specialized services.

5. Comment On Similar Niche Blogs
Commenting on relevant niche blogs to your blog is important to help increase comments in our blog. Those who have strong interest in same field as yours will most probably return commenting on your blog because it impresses them. It is another way to attract targeted traffic that will bring in more conversion rates like clicking on second page or posts or supporting any of our advertisers. In any traffic generation methods, attracting targeted traffic is the main goal. Commenting on similar niche blogs will certainly help us to get more targeted visitors without subscribing any paid services. Plus, it will increase our blogs comments and content section.

6. Controversial Articles
Writing controversial articles is a well known way to attract more visitors and comments. This is a traditional way of generating quick buzz over any topics in our niche. Post something that is highly controversial in your blog and watch the number of comments and traffic referred to that particular page increased. However, it is safe to write something that is not against anyone’s TOS. Otherwise, we may face some lawsuit or charges writing those articles. You can try writing topics that is unsure in real market and voice up your personal opinion towards it. At the end of the post, ask for opinion from your readers. This will eventually increase the number of comments.

7. Break The News
If you are in a position where fresh news gets through you, write about it and get a instant traffic and buzz to your site. Most news and content based sites are depending on new article or breaking news. Whoever post it first will get special place in search engines and other top news site referring your site as reference which will draw more traffic and comments. Make use of your resources to get top or latest news or research details that will impress others on your next post.

I have cracked my head to get all seven aspects that needed to increase comments on our blog. If you have something out of the box, please contribute it in the comment section.

We have incorporated a number of these tactics into our blog but have not yet seen an increase in comments. I am going to have to try addding some sort of contest, etc to encourage commenters on our blog. Anyone else have much luck with contests they have run in the past attempting to increase commenters on their blog?

    • Atniz says:

  3. Jay says:

Atniz, I’ve seen some people use the WordPress plugin, comment luv, but I’m not sure if it’s do follow? The plugin lets comment posters add a link to their most recent blog article in their comment. Anyone have any thoughts on the comment luv plugin?

    • Sam says:

Jay, comment luv plugin will give an opportunity for the user to use his keyword and name in the comment section. In this the keyword will be anchor texed to his/her website. This gives a good SEO benefit.

For eg: If I type Sam @ Twitter in the name section, the comment luv plugin will show as Sam from Twitter (MY website being anchor texed here) wrote this.

Dofollow or nofollow can be configured based on our needs.

      Hope this helps.

      Sam
