Are you a full time work at home individual? Sometimes, it is hard to explain our job nature to our family members or children. Have you ever faced this problem before? Recently, I wanted to register my 2 and ½ years old son to a school nearby. In occupation column, I write “SEO Specialist” as a profession. This is still not a common job type in many countries. I doubt that “Link Builder” or “Article Marketing Specialist” can make even better job title. Luckily, they don’t question more about my job specification there. It’s not the school only that doesn’t understand our job scope, even my mum and dad also don’t know what I am doing here.
Recalling the type of work people believe in traditional world is where we go out from house at 7-8am and return back to home at 6-7pm. This may look like a proper job than compared to work from home individuals. Most parents still can’t accept that we are still working even if we don’t go to work. Sitting in a room for hours viewing monitor in the house doesn’t make us look like doing a real job there. So, is it an odd job to be a SEO specialist? I still remember my parents wears uniform and goes to the work during weekdays. They just can accept me as a working mum because I stay at home.
Personally, I still believe that I’m gifted to be a full time work from home mum. I don’t have to wear uniform to work. I don’t have my superiors that give me target or work schedule to meet. I don’t have boss that screws up whenever he fights with his wife. I don’t have to do hundreds of co-calls every day and get scolded by some strangers. Most importantly, I don’t have to do a routine job from 8 to 5. This kind of freedom is what most of us could dream of. I hope that Government and private companies starts to recognize work from home mums. Other than that, this is a great opportunity for all. Make money online is easy but making enough money that will make us retire or quit our day is hard.

Freedom is really what it is. They may not understand because maybe they are not aware of what we do everyday to make an extra earning or sometimes they just don’t get technology.
super to the nth level true. My mom constantly nagging at me to find a job different from what I have now. She thinks I am just playing around and wasting my time being at home even if I am financially supporting her. Very sad isn’t it? I don’t know if I can still convince her that I am working even if I am at home.
That is soooo true. Parents often think you can “do stuff” cause you don’t “really work”. It can really be problematic if you don’t lay ground rules and screen phone calls.
my parent is very supportive in me
Yes, Its happened to me too this day. Friends ask me about what I’m doing, lucky me I’m still have off line job, running an internet cafe.
Hope in the future there are more understanding from people around us that we can live with on line activities and make a living
Exactly, I face this question too. When people ask me what is my job? I usually answer I’m still unemployed cause I don’t know how to explain this blogging thing.
Earning money online needs time and much effort and I haven’t reached that level yet
Hi atniz,
You know what? I can really relate with what you are pointing here. A lot of people think that I’m unemployed because they always see me at home. They got this connotation that if you don’t go out everyday, drive to work and arrive late, you’re not working. When they ask me, where I work? I tell them “at home”, and they all got this ridiculous look. Anyways, I don’t pay much attention to them, they are too old fashion to embrace such trend.
The freedom which I want from working at home. I hope I can reach this state soon.
totally right…until know i still can’t explain what’s my jop actually to my parents…hope someday they can understand….nice info although…
