Many of SEO’s do believe that commenting on high PR blogs is enough for SEO. For me its the last thing i do, start SEO from articles submission, press releases and then moves towards forums , social media for free traffic odd course. Look, free is being touted as a concept here where time has little or no value. Writing can be really painful and time consuming for some people, and if you put a dollar value to the time spent writing you’ll be scared. There is no such thing as truly free lunch, even in the internet world.

If you post a comment on an OPEN forum then you will get a back link through your sig. Something else to remember (meant for those silly “lol”, smiley etc commentators). The value of 1000 links from 1 URL is LESS valuable than 1000 links from 100 sites. You also get CLOSED, or subscription forums. They do not allow search engines to crawl their forum content. Only members can see your post and click through.

I think that the way google treats backlinks is wrong because people focus more on writing something quick (to promote their site/twitter/facebook account) rather than read the article and start an interesting debate with the author.
I remember back in the days when forums dominated, everyone focused on writing good and lengthy replies and none cared for google or other search engines.
But i guess time changes and we must follow the trends and nowadays everything seems to be oriented around google.
Online trend changes faster that we think. I guess forum still have good visitors. I am a proud member of Digitalpoint forum and contributed over 1k posts there. It helps me deliver good number of visitors from that network. It also helped me get sales on my several services packages. No matter where we get the link, it must be relevant in order to see the conversion results.
I’ve been trying to comment more on blogs I enjoy as well of blogs that say they are do follow. But I haven’t seen any additional links back in the wordpress dashboard. So I don’t know how much this is helping me.
I starting looking into guest post. I think I’ll start with letting others guest post on my site, then move to writing guest post of my own.

Noticing backlink may take minutes, hours, days, weeks or months depending on the frequency of spiders visit. And it depends on which service spider’s too. As for backlink checker, there are several number of tools. I suggest trying other free tools to check your real backlink is helpful.
