Dofollow blogs is where bloggers gives dofollow link to commentators, which has no rel=”nofollow” tag added on commentator’s link. It is one of the popular types of link building, but only small number of blogs participates in dofollow movement. As for this blog, I used to support it as dofollow blog until last year. I am unable to control spam comments luring in this blog. As for now, there is an average of 20 comments per post. The numbers even higher even I disable the comment section on blogpost over dated over than a month. Definitely, dofollow blogs attracts visitors and active commentators on your blog which is an excellent way for new blogs or those who seeking for traffic. But, dofollow blogs needs extra attention. Each outgoing links from comment section need to be monitored. If the link goes to any pharma, adult, gambling, debt collection, etc which is not related to your post, then you might have the risk of lowering site quality.
Google have clearly state in Google webmaster blog that dofollow comments have the risk of reducing site’s quality. A well moderated dofollow blog have better quality compared to unmoderated dofollow blogs. Matt Cutts has agreed that dofollow commenting still flows some page rank value which may not help a lot. I would say yes if the post has hundreds of comments unmoderated and growing each day. But, if the post only has less than 10 comments and well moderated, then the pagerank flow is good. It would be better if the page gained some page rank value which will help increase our page rank as well. So, it is clear that dofollow blog commenting is still counted as quality back links that can increase Google SERP ranking and page rank if the blog post have low number of comments, moderated and high PR. Bloggers known method of socialize is commenting. So, if you have a blog and wanted to increase page rank, start commenting on dofollow blogs.

This is a good idea to make the blog dofollow but this is also right that in that case you have to face spaming problem…This is a really very nice informative post…thanks a lot.
One thing about no follow link. I’ve heard from some SEO Consultant that no follow link is effective to get rank in Yahoo Search Engine that is why it is easy to get high rank in Yahoo than Google due to this no follow algorithm.
Yes it is worthwhile getting links from dofollow blogs. If you Google for dofollow lists then you’ll probably find one or three but I wouldn’t expect them to be 100% accurate. It’s also worthwhile getting links back from pages like this one (which I think is nofollow?) that obviously have good related content on it. OK it’s nofollow but so what? All else being equal if your site has a few links from pages like this it’ll rank higher than pages that don’t. Just because a link isn’t dofollow doesn’t make it worthless.

This is nofollow. Comment from nofollow still delivers traffic, real traffic. If the blog is about SEO, having a related keyword name still delivers some potential traffic to the site. It only does not help in Google search engine SEO.
So, it is still worthy to comment in dofollow blog.
Yes, it is. I am sure you are happy to hear that.
This was an interesting post. I am a small blog and I moderate all my comments myself. Where do I find where the dofollow blogs are located??? I am just learning all this stuff. Thanks
You can search in Google “dofollow blogs” and you will get some long list of dofollow blogs. But, make sure to check they are dofollow blogs. To check they are dofollow blogs, open any blog post that have comments on it. Check on commentators name that have link, just like your here to Margsanimals.com. Then, check link properties. If you can find “rel=”nofollow” or “external nofollow” in the properties, than it is not a dofollow blog. Nofollow tag should not be included in dofollow blogs. I hope this helps.
Great post atniz! I’m glad we both learn from Matt Cutt’s webmaster videos. I’ve gone tired moderating spam. This is one of the reasons I switched to a third party commenting system. Not on does it block bots to send spam comments, It also has a nofollow feature. So the only problem I have is from people commenting on my blog that is considered spam.
Thank you. Third party commenting system is another escape way to retain our blog quality. Well done there!
The interesting thing is I’ve left a few comments on dofollow blogs and haven’t seen the links back on my wordpress dashboard.
Backlink checking tools are different from each service providers. I suggest you to use YahooSiteexplorer to detect your real backlinks.
Thanks for remind me about this Rheena, I’ve several comments from the list you said above. Lucky me I’m not approved all the comments.
Great! I am sure your blog quality will improve in time.
Hey there Atniz, an aware commentator will know that nofollow blog comments can still be used to favourably alter the anchor text profile of a site and can still usefully provide links to internal pages, (as in fact I’m doing here). Many people have (thankfully) given up getting comment links from blogs since dofollow stopped, but what they fail to realise is that a new playing field has been created. In the absence of a wealth of available dofollow links, nofollow links suddenly assume a new importance. If you get nofollow links, and other people turn their noses up at the idea, then you rank, and they don’t. There are still rewards out there for the hardworking.
See ya

Hi Bill,
Good to hear from you again. Nofollow links are good to draw immediate traffic from real visitors viewing our comments. But, it is not helpful for SEO, especially concerning the dominant Google.
