Although, building excellent content is still remaining the King of SEO, back links will remain as a good companion to the King. Good number and quality of back links with combination of excellent content will strike out our blog in terms of traffic, page rank, backlinks, fans, etc. It is usually rare combination that followed by many bloggers or webmasters. Link building should done professionally in order to get the best benefit from it. We know that it is a tedious work that takes a lot of time researching the quality of those sites to get back link from. But, in terms of SEO, a good research and study needed before getting any back link from a site.
First of all, you need to ask yourself that are you going to follow 100% webmaster TOS set by Google, 50-50 or fully against their TOS. Setting out our way of link building is the most important idea in link development strategies. Each SEO professional have their own rules of link building strategy. You need to deliver your preference right in the beginning of the process. There are many webmasters don’t really bother about those TOS and go and purchase links with dofollow. They are safe until Google recognize their activity and start imposing penalties. In my view, you should follow strictly Google TOS in order to stay in the business for long term.
I am sure you wanted to create a good profile and stay in the business for long term. There are competitors who would deploy link building campaign strategies against Google TOS and gain good spot in short period of time. Remember, there are over 5,000 staff in Google working to create better algorithm to find those who go against their TOS and penalized them. Now, your competitor can submit a report to Google stating that you have involved in page rank flow link sales. Getting engage in link building strategies that is against Google TOS might be a shortcut to reach top spot but it also can crush our business when it is established. Choose a right method in your early link building campaign to avoid these types of penalties and negative effect on our business.

What are your thoughts on software programs that submit your posts to directories etc.? I subscribe to Traffic Bug. It is not altogether automatic as the directories then come back and need confirmation, also I need to get several steps done for Traffic Bug to submit.
You can set your aggressive level. I keep mine at low. I don’t think that the quality of these links is as high as other methods of obtaining links but it certainly contributes to the numbers. I mix and match – working on “manual” efforts and hope that they too will multiply organically.

Some directories tend to get indexed and crawled by the search engines much faster than your blog (as if the directory has much PR and longer age) which will be good to make your post exposed before it’s directly indexed by the search engines.
However, there’s one down side about this is that will also make your post lose its own authority, because the post you’ve submitted to the directory is indexed and found first, before the post on your blog. It’ll slightly affect your ranking in SERPs.
Don’t worry about Google because it nowadays becomes smarter than it was. As long as there’s one link back to your blog post, Google identifies and know where the post belongs to. I’m not sure about other search engines though.
what is disadvantages in submitting in directories is they asking for a link reciprocal by placing a chicklet in your blog as a part of verification
It is similar to link exchanges. You link me, I link you type where you don’t really enjoy the benefits here. The value from a directory backlink is much lower compared to blog backlink. It is simply because, directory known to give out links.
I wouldn’t give more credit towards directory submission. After all, it contains highest number of outgoing links per page. But, not all directories are bad. Some with good reputation like DMOZ, Yahoo, etc still delivers good value towards our authority.
