Weblogs, most commonly called as blog are slowly turning into traditional type of blogging. Taking a look at the concept of blogging, that is meant for personal diary once upon a time. It is where we talk about something that is in our interest. The same way, Twitter (also known as micro blogging platform) attracts many users worldwide and it slowly turning today’s blog to traditional type of blogging. With its function and traffic, microblogging platform slowly takes over our traditional blogging trends. We can create faster interconnection and get informed with Twitter compared to blogs. With Twitter’s exponential growth and global giant company’s participation, it looks like they are heading in right direction.
On the other hand, blogs still manage to get top ranking in search ranking and it is a place to share more contents. With blog, we are not limited to 140 letters which is still a winning factor for blogs. Since, content is still king of SEO, blogs will survive from Twitter’s growth. I’m not entirely saying that blog will be dying in future but there are chances. Plus, it is just another technology that evolves as time passes. We can see the news about earthquake in California spread so fast in Twitter and Google (Twitter updated search results). The trend and importance are given to Twitter more these days compared to blogs. Most search engines have upgraded their search algorithm to show real time search results from Twitter and blogs. I noticed that a tweet is easy to get indexed faster compared to a blogpost.
In any way, it is good to go combination with weblogs and Twitter. It is a win-win situation to work on Twitter and blog together. New contents can be updated daily on our blog and we can get free buzz from Twitter. There are plenty monetization option available for both blogging and Twitter account. Get paid to tweet and get paid to blog with your preferred programs. Personally, I have nearly 80k followers on Twitter; some advertiser willing to pay up to $300 per tweet. Obviously, Twitter is as good as blogging to make money online. This is definitely good news for full time work from home mum and dad. I don’t know the future of blogging industry, but I’m prepared with both Twitter and blog. How about you? Are you still neglecting Twitter?

One vote for twitter!
My vote for both.
Yup, or else you can use other social site.
Social site is getting so popular these days. Twitter and Facebook is a good example.
Perfect Plugin for this I guess would be WP-Twitter.
I have used a plugin before, but gave up since the load time gets too late waiting response from twitter.
With twitters live feed deal with Google and sites like tweetmeme you will see more and more tweets go hand in hand with blogging and sites like eBay showing timed live auctions with articles and tweets only lasting for the time of the auction.
I can only see growth for twitter in 2010. I mean where else we can get real time results than Twitter.

It is true. Blogging is becoming an important SEO tool that many business website starting to use blog to promote their products and services.
Yeah — blog alone give limitation which can overcome by combine it with other new blogging trend such as twitter.
It will give better exposure with combination of blog and twitter.
I know this is kinda of topic but Gravity.com promises to bring blogging to a social life , I tried to apply but they are still in beta.
I can imagine this can be a threat to selfhosted blogs in general.
I never heard of this site before. Thanks for sharing. Will check it out.
Creator of MySpace created Gravity, I signed up and recieved an email that I’m on the list for beta users.
MySpace? I guess they are losing market share in social network industry to Facebook recently.
Blogs and Twitter definitely go hand in hand. The evolution of web 2.0.
Yes, you right. A combination of Twitter and blog always works better.
I’m still the traditional blogger, because I give it more importance than I do with Twitter. It’s mostly because Twitter doesn’t allow for too much self-expression: the micro-blogging technique requires us to be concise and straight to the point, which does rarely allow for anything more than a few ‘more personal’ words. It’s just like text messaging, but online.
Of course, this just applies to personal blogging. Business is just another thing. Sure, Twitter may not be SEO friendly, but it’s known that advertisement messages are more effective if they meet those 2 requirements: 1) concise 2) straight to the point
So I wouldn’t replace my blogs with Twitter for anything in the world. But Twitter has always been my ‘little online newsletter’ where I could instantaneously share or advertise an idea or a website in a few seconds, something for which a blog post would be wasted or not as effective.
Really, it depends on the usage. But I don’t think blogs are going to be replaced at all: people who love writing for themselves and share those thoughts with others, and who are more keen to take their time online, and reflect on what they read and write, wouldn’t find anything better than a blog to do that. Forums? Maybe, but not as much.
Wow! That is the longest comment I have ever seen on this blog. Thank you for your input.
As long as google takes count of backlinks in their ranking algorithm, blogs will survive.
LOL. XD I wrote a blog post instead of a comment it seems! I let thoughts flow through my typing hands too much maybe.
I think if Google begins taking backlinks away from its algorithm, not just blogs but the whole website area of the ‘net would die. What is the web without its billions+ websites & blogs? They better not do that. ^^
It is good to get these type of comments compared to those one line of few words type of comments which is really meant to increase comment count or backlinks. I’m happy to get a reader like you.
You’re welcome.
I like commenting on entries I like and on blogs I love. If we don’t care about what we do online, where’s the fun? ^_- Backlinks are important, but when they have meaning for us. Or they’re just ‘sterile’ links. This is my opinion at least.
Blogging is suppose to be fun if we follow the correct path. There are many scammers use blogging as a platform that creates bad impression towards genuine bloggers. Hope Google will find ways to eliminate them completely out from their system soon.
