Twitter And Facebook Kills Business
With increasing popularity of social networking media like Facebook and Twitter, communication just got easier and faster. As a marketing person, this is a positive move to let others know about your latest product or services. But, there are so many studies and reports blaming this social media are the reason for low performance and economic slowdown in large corporations. By doing a simple math on average working hours and the time we spend online on Facebook and Twitter, we can get clear picture of such claims. Personally, I prefer to open my Facebook profile and Tweetdeck whenever I’m online.
If I run a company that employs 100 staffs, I need only one person to handle social networking marketing media to promote my business. If all 100 staffs using this media during working hours, I would say it is not a productive move. Social media networks are very addictive, just like porn. I wonder how many of us don’t use Facebook or Twitter in a day. It is fun to play some games and commenting on pictures of our loved ones. Fun during working hours is not healthy for the company’s growth.
I prefer to employ the staff that concentrates fully on work during working hours. I do not want to pay for their fun rambling chats and commenting on facebook or twitter. I wonder how many business owners would have thought about it. Of course, there are always ways to block these sites but proxy sites helps to overcome this. Social media is definitely one of the best ways to do online marketing but this will also kill our business if not controlled. Have you checked what your secretary doing on her computer recently?

In our office, most of the people spend a lot of time playing games in Facebook. I agree it is bad for business.

Looks like we need to run a voting system to get true answer here. I wish your boss don’t see their monitor screen.

That’s right. Employees usually intend to overdo the “social thing” and forgot the real goal of the company. Policy should be imposed and close monitoring should be done.

Erm, from the proof given, I agree that Facebook has made the productivity and performance of offline corporation slowing down. That’s why mostly, a company will block such a social networking site so that its workers can’t access the site.

HI Fatin,
Good to hear from you. Many small and medium level companies are still unaware of this situation. I guess the bosses really need to go for some social media meetings.

in the above arguments, I agree that those sites can be restricted or block during office hours, but we cant neglect the fact that it is also a means of socialization.

Yes Socialization is not a bad thing as long as it doesn’t hinders your job or what ever task you are in. This is most critical if you are bounded by the duties you have sworn not to make it a part of the task you have known specifically for you job.
Even in our simple lives, socialization when done wrong is not good. Too much on something is always not good. Maybe you can control it. But how? Just be honest even if others are not. Be honest even if others cannot. Be honest if others will not. YES. Just be honest to your boss of doing only job related task when on duty. Thats it!

Facebook and Twitter helps to draw traffic but as for SEO point of view, it doesn’t help that much.
