I'm still using XML sitemap and almost all my new post get indexed within few minutes. I think Google is still doing good with XML. But, if there is an option, I'm willing to try it as well.

I'm not sure that is the reason why Google prefer html over xml sitemap. But, I noticed a lot of blogspot blogs tend to get at the end of results page in any keywords searched over google too.

Most probably, Google's bot is not ready to read well XML compared to html. I'm sure there must be something before Matt Cutts recommending something.

Despite that the XML sitemap is not friendly for human and intended for spiders of SEs, still it can be useful to generate a HTML sitemap or just use its XML style template to generate a HTML like sitemap.

Hello Web Templates,
Google always tells us to create site for human visitors and not for SE's. html sitemaps are good and easy for humans but xml format is not. I think that may be the reason.
Anyway Google seems to be least interested with their own blogger.

Thanks
Atniz

Why would Google care about the format? That seems strange. IMO there should be no discernable difference especially if you use a style sheet with the XML sitemap.

It's been a while I left blogspot blogs, so, I am not really good in SEO for blogspot blogs. Frankly, there will be some sort of limitation if we are bond to blogspot blogs.
