Starting Second Blog Is A Bad Idea
There are a lot of static websites made to sell products and services. There is also other type of static websites that sells affiliate products are often found in first three top positions in search engines for most highly targeted keywords. You might notice that it is almost impossible to beat these sites as they keep on getting more backlinks each day. Usually, those who have more money can get great outsource SEO service and always keep their site above the competition level. It is because, there have been utilizing well their page to make money from their visitors.
I noticed that my blog is not really utilized on advertising section. If you have strong advertising income from your website, it will be a good motivation to invest in SEO to get more profit. Basically, I believe that doing SEO for static webpage is a lot easier compared to a blog. It is because; we may have limited number of pages to SEO for from a website. Unlike blogpost tend to get higher ranking in SERP for first few weeks of posting and will dropped to lower ranking, often called Google Honeymoon. Website pages are static and with consistent backlinks creation which will help to dominate top position in SERP ranking.
I have made a terrible move by starting a second blog. Instead, I should have started a website that offers SEO package or sell some affiliate products. For example, if you can earn $300 from your first blog, you might want to start a second blog expecting that you can make another $300 from it. In fact that was my expectation and goal to start my second blog. Trust me; it is not easy to earn $300 from a new blog. But, it is easier to increase first blog’s income from $300 to $600 with a little more effort on increasing targeted traffic and better positioning on advertising links and SERP ranking. What do you think about this?

I completely agree with you, Atniz. Focusing on a blog is much more better than try to earn big money from several blog. I do have experience like you and now, I try to manage it wisely, or else, I gain nothing or just a little money.

In my opinion, It must create new blog if want to write in another niche. But, if the new blog have same niche with first blog, I suggest to optimize the first blog.

I think it is a good idea too. Writing second blog in same niche give us low resources to maintain both under same niche.

It is a common mistake that many does and fail. There are few bloggers still able to make it but for me, I still prefer to one blog instead of starting second blog.

So are you saying static websites are given preference over those with changing content like an RSS feed on the main page?

RSS feed on main page are not really getting good attention in SE as they represent duplicate contents. Although, the reference links provided but duplicate content still be treated as duplicate content.

Atniz,
Your blog is highly informative and you get good traffic for the same. However I feel that you are not making the best out of it. Sorry for this and I am honest in my words. Can I give you few suggestions to improve your earnings.
1) Blog design – Your three column design is not suitable for increasing CTRs on advertisement. So I suggest you make a good design that is capable enough to get maximum clicks on Advertisements.
2) PPC ads – Since your niche is work and home, you can earn tonns of money from PPC networks like Adsense. I see an adsense unit is running but with incorrect positioning and color.
3) Place your adsense ads (rectangle is best for me) in the hot spot of the blog.
4) You use default adsense ad color, which is a big mistake. Change the color of your ads to blend well within your blog – This can help to increase CTR upto 500%.
5) Please take advantage of link ads from adsense.
I have quite a lot suggestions for you. I do consulting for clients, but I can do free for you as I got lot of inputs from you in DP!
Thanks
Sam

Hi Sam.
Thank you for your honest review about my blog. Frankly, I feel the same too. I just changed the color on adsense and noticed some difference too. About the template, I’m still not ready to change it yet, but soon enough will do. Currently, I’m concentrating too much on contents and link building and neglected positioning in the blog. Recently, I made some changes and it looks better in arrangement now. It doesn’t look messy as it was earlier.
Thanks again for your sincere opinion.

The problem with multiple blogs is it requires a lot of time and it will be very exhausting specially if you want something that will really meet the standards / goal that you want.

Exactly. Running multiple blogs is easy if we don’t bother about it’s quality. But, if we want good quality, then it takes a lot of time and time consuming.

Yes Atniz I think that its easy to do on page SEO of a static website. You have some set of target keywords for that. But a blog will gain page rank quickly due to content but its don’t have specific keywords as there are different posts.
Thanks

It’s true. Both blog and website have their advantages and disadvantages. Personally, for a business website, I strongly suggest it comes with a blog to maintain contents.

I think they serve different purposes, a 2nd blog is valuable if it is in a separate niche like most others have commented. I do earn about $300 per month from my primary blog and only about $70 per month from my 2nd blog, almost none from my 3rd, but this will change as other blogs continue to grow and gain PageRank. Since you can’t cover too many topics on one blog, you limit yourself to what kind of advertisers you can accept with only one blog.
Then again, if you are just trying to sell an affiliate product or a product/service, a static page will get you better pagerank faster and with less work.

Congrats on your earnings. It is a good motivation if we can see some money pouring in from new blogs too. But, if we can handle multiple blogs then it is ok. I never really try on static page to sell affiliate or product sales before. Maybe, it is time to check this out too.

You are right Atniz, moving from 300 to 600 mark won’t be a big issues, but creating a new blog and expecting it to give you 300 per month income is a difficult task to achieve.

As someone who has 5 or more blogs, I would advise against it. Why it’s bad is that say one blog is taking off or you get a joint-venture request you cannot dedicate yourself to that. Also you should be constantly trying out new things on your blog, designs, quizzes, polls you cant do that properly if you are spreading yourself thin.

I agree with you. We can’t simply expand or implement new ideas if we have a lot of blogs to concentrate. Most of the time will be spend on content and backlink creation alone.

It partly agree with you because I have several blogs and I sometimes find that I hardly ever update on some of the other blogs. This does affect the PR. However, on the positive side, all the blogs have different themes and thus I can cater to different advertisers. I have to disagree with you on one point, it is easier to maintain the PR on blogs rather than on websites.

I’m not sure whether it is true or not. Maintaining PR on a blog seems difficult for me. I have more than 30k backlinks and still show PR3. Probably, my PR leakage is too much per page or the quality of backlinks dropped.

The great thing about blogs is that you can network with other bloggers and help each other. Of course you have to work on it. You do need to visit other blogs and comment on them while making regular posts on your blogs.

Blogging well takes a great deal of time to begin with: creating content, networking with related sites, linkbuilding, etc… If you’re able to generate $300 from your blog, then you may have found a valuable niche worth exploiting.
I have one blog and concentrate on it. It is not intended to be a money-making effort, but that is not to say that it does not provide value. Frankly, I can’t even think about starting a second; I would have not time left in the day!

There are many new ways to improve on our current blog. Personally, I don’t really optimize this blog to earn more money yet. So, it is good to well optimize a blog first with contents, backlinks, ranking, design, etc and start earning some extra money instead trying out something new and build from zero.

It helps but Google aware of this. They don’t give credit to interlinked blog in same IP or hosted blogs. Interlinking can be limited to 5 blogs but large numbers tend to get some penalty too.
