Have you notice slow sales in your blog recently? I noticed that many blogs and websites with high traffic and pagerank have emptied ad spaces. Many are still running affiliate banners to replace emptied ad spaces. I think the big wave of economic slowdown is starting to hit online businesses too. I noticed that blogs with Alexa ranking lower than 60k unable to sell 125×125 spot for $10/month. More and more advertisers are requesting for dofollow links with cheapest rate. It can be seen in many webmaster forums under Buy, Sell & Trade section. I can see rates going at $5/month for a dofollow PR3 links at these forums which is not endorsed by google.
Bigger blogs like JC, Shoe, etc mainly advertise affiliate links in their advertising space banners. You can still make good money from affiliate if you already have good base of loyal visitors and growing each day. There are several things that we can do instead of waiting for the slot to be filled. For example, placing new related ebook affiliate banners, pushing Twitter client affiliates, sell affiliate hosting with discount coupon, etc which is still in affiliate world. I can only think of one good solution that can suite everyone. Build more quality contents to increase number of unique pages indexed in google and other search engines. Build more backlinks and concentrate on getting top spot for some specialized keyword in google SERP ranking.
Getting top spot or first rank for any medium volume to high volume traffic can help us convince advertisers to buy space on our blog at reasonable rate. I noticed that this blog title of “Work At Home” is still a broad topic. Targeting more specific keywords like “work at home jobs”, “work at home data entry”, “work at home scams”, etc can get more attention and is easier to rank compared to general keyword. Have you able to get first spot for any highly targeted specific keyword? What is the outcome from advertisers? Have you able to sell any space on your blog or website privately without using any third party service? Please share your experience.

I guess, we have two choice:
1. Increase traffic
2. Increase SERP ranking to be TOP position for some highly searched keywords.
Thanks for the info. I’ll be more careful with PPC.
As long as you don’t spend more money on advertising if you don’t see the results will do.
I think the economic ripple effect has affected the online world as well. I believe we’ve been through the worst of it. We all should be seeing better times next year.
I hope so too. I’m sure many will face difficult time during economic downturn. I hope this industry will soon recover.
Yeah! I surely felt it.
I hope it will be back to normal soon.
I’ve seen big changes in how much you have to pay for PPC campaigns.
It is very expensive and we could lose all the money if we don’t do it right way. No wonder Google can make huge profit from adwords each year.
Yah, the review in my others blog also slower. Hope it will better soon.
Yeah, I’m hoping that too. Review sales drop almost half to 75% on this blog. I think something is terribly wrong with online advertising now.
