It has been almost 18 months supporting dofollow movement on this blog and finally calling it quit. I was a proud member and supported dofollow move and always hunt and check new dofollow blogs. Plus, I have sent hundreds of messages and emails on blogs that have dofollow badge but not dofollow. Personally, I hate to remove the dofollow plugin from this blog but this is the best way for me to bring this blog to next level. Below are some of the strong reasons why I’m turning off dofollow plugin from this blog:
- Closing comment section on older posts
- 100+ dofollow links per page (outgoing)
- Linking to bad neighborhood with dofollow
After weeks of consideration, I’m going to say goodbye to dofollow plugin on this blog. This is not to say that I’m entirely removing dofollow links from this blog. Top commentators widget is very useful and to give more credit towards the links, it won’t be sidewide but from main page (strongest page from this blog).
- Top Commentators with dofollow link
- Accept keywords in name section (Except adult, gambling and pharma related).
- Will not close comment section anymore
I want to bring this blog to next level. Hope to get the same strong support here. There are a lot of developments sketched out for this blog and I hope it will benefit all of us. I know many will hate this move, but I will try my best to keep this blog informative and useful.

I’m a do follow blog WITH CommentLuv plugin and I’m doing that to “get into the market” for blog commentators. Let’s face it, people do tend to comment a bit more if it’s a do follow blog. Eventually I might remove it and go over to something that will allow regular commentators to become “do follow” and everybody else “no follow”, but I don’t hope I will ever have to completely remove do follow.
Good luck with the change
Hi Klaus,
Good to hear your blog is still dofollow. I feel bad to completely remove dofollow too. But, I still remain to give dofollow link for top commentators. I guess, it is another good way to increase comments too.
Do Follow attribute is must if you want to encourage users to commenting.
Yes, it is. But, if you have huge incoming comments and unable to control your spam or legitimate comments anymore, then it is time to reconsider dofollow.
I also once have it, but revert it back. Same reason
Really? Wow! I think many have the same reason to turn off dofollow blogs.
Hope, it will be better for you..
Yes, it is now. Less spam comments even though I have not closing comment section on older posts.
Its a good decision that you still maintain the dofollow atrribute for the top Commentator.
Yes, it is. Plus, I made it to monthly reset instead weekly basis. So, the loyal commentators will get longer stay on this list.
I am also an advocate of ‘DoFollow’ but instead of having a plugin that allow it on every comment, I have the “No Follow Free” (NOFF) where the author’s signature and other links in the comment can be set to become DoFollow after a certain number of comments by the commentor. Comments on my blogs are subject to moderation and I am using WP-SpamFree plugin to avoid spams.
I believe the best reason why one must not be make his blog a DoFollow the way you did is the lack of reciprocity. If only the majority, if not all of us, would make our blogs dofollows, then PR leaks would be minimized.
It’s good to see on how you control your dofollow on your blog. There are many reason why we should stop giving dofollow. It all depends on the time that we can spend towards moderating our blog.
Well! I support whatever decision you make. All the best.
Thank you so much Tekkaus. Really appreciate this kind of support from my readers.
You are welcome Atniz!
If you’re not moderating comments, you’ll have these problems regardless of the status of those comments. Indeed, nofollow’d links will still continue to drain pagerank, so it won’t help with the number of outbound links. It also won’t help if you are still linking to bad neighborhoods and your visitors click on them. I can’t say I agree with this move, but its your blog so good luck.
I was a strong supporter of dofollow movement too and still too. But, I don’t have the time to handle the huge moderation part as the traffic increases. It is difficult to check each new link before approving it. Nofollow links to bad neighbourhood will not be crawled or indexed in google and we have lower chance to get penalty even if we do that. So, I think I think this is the best solution for now.
woooo.. this is really a big decision on your part.. hope it would do great on your blog. notify me of improvements.. thanks
I noticed that my SERP ranking for some keywords have increased doing this. Not sure because of this method but it does increase within 2 days turning off dofollow.
Yah, i understand why you back to nofollow blog. I once have dofollow blog with PR 3, and guess what, the comment in that make me sick. There are ton of spam come that even do not read my writing. And i decide to change back to nofollow after that.
I agree. Many just read the title and start commenting. I think it is not worth to give a dofollow backlink for this kind of comments. It is also time consuming to moderate heavy number of incoming comments each day.
