No Dofollow Anymore on Atniz

It has been almost 18 months supporting dofollow movement on this blog and finally calling it quit. I was a proud member and supported dofollow move and always hunt and check new dofollow blogs. Plus, I have sent hundreds of messages and emails on blogs that have dofollow badge but not dofollow. Personally, I hate to remove the dofollow plugin from this blog but this is the best way for me to bring this blog to next level. Below are some of the strong reasons why I’m turning off dofollow plugin from this blog:

- Closing comment section on older posts
- 100+ dofollow links per page (outgoing)
- Linking to bad neighborhood with dofollow

After weeks of consideration, I’m going to say goodbye to dofollow plugin on this blog. This is not to say that I’m entirely removing dofollow links from this blog. Top commentators widget is very useful and to give more credit towards the links, it won’t be sidewide but from main page (strongest page from this blog).

- Top Commentators with dofollow link
- Accept keywords in name section (Except adult, gambling and pharma related).
- Will not close comment section anymore

I want to bring this blog to next level. Hope to get the same strong support here. There are a lot of developments sketched out for this blog and I hope it will benefit all of us. I know many will hate this move, but I will try my best to keep this blog informative and useful.

Nofollow links in comment are still good for Yahoo backlink count. :) That has its value too!
But if you ever want to return to dofollow commenting, and since you use WordPress, you could use the comment paging plugin, so that you can have just 5-6 comments per page. And comment moderation of course. That would help a lot I think. ^^

  2. I panicked a bit when read this post, and a bit confused whether I should remove the nofollow free or not. But I found this article today, it said dofollow comment links didn’t leach her PR.

    • Atniz says:

If you can manage to control spam comments or your blog relatively new and wants to get better exposure and traffic, changing to dofollow blog will definitely help you to get what you wanted.

As for PR leakage, if nofollow added on outgoing links, PR juice will just flushed away and it will not benefit the blog owner or the commentators.

Also, take note that if we allow dofollow commenting, and if the blog post have more than 100 comments, adding sidebar, footer, header and contents link will represent more than 100 outgoing links from a single blog post. In Google’s eye, this is not healthy and they may mark us as bad neighborhood site. This may reflect in low pagerank or some other penalties.

i always support you Atniz! heheh
i hope you won’t remove that Top commentator widget
since you just display it on the main page, not side wide :)
    success !

    • Atniz says:

Thank you so much for your support. Top commentators widget is not removed and I prefer to keep it active. BTW, yesterday was PR update, did you get any luck?

  4. Thanks you are still maintaing top Commentators with dofollow link..

  5. Sorry that you decided to do that. I don’t even go to mixx or digg now that they switched to no follow.
My blog will always be do follow because it’s not my blog it belongs to bloggers and I would NEVER switch their links ever. :(

    • Atniz says:

Wow! A strong message there. Not many admit their blog is not belong to them but the readers. You must be a die hard fan of dofollow. I am still a dofollow fan but just couldn’t cope up with this blog.

  6. It was partially this blog and techpatio that convinced me to become a dofollow blog, I haven’t noticed a huge increase in SPAM over what I already had, but have seen more comments lately. Of course I don’t get nearly as many comments, over 5100 comments on a blog with only 279 posts is tremendous.

    • Atniz says:

Good to hear that. I always a strong supporter of dofollow movement and if I start a new blog will certainly give dofollow to commentators. This is one of the way to increase traffic and comments on our blog. In my case, it is just too much to control as you have stated the stats of posts and comments here. I wish you all the best with your blog. Anyway, nice interview slot with Karen.

  7. Glenn says:

I am a blog with less then three months in and just started do follow. I was hesitant for all the reasons discussed both pro and con. What would your advice be for a newbie such as myself. Stay the course with no follow or continue for now at least with do follow. I have a ways to go before I hit the “next level” :-) thanks

    • Atniz says:

Personally, I suggest you to go on with dofollow. Dofollow movement is a way to increase comment and traffic to our blog. Many dofollow blogs will notice sudden jump in comments and traffic within few days enabling dofollow. I have been supporting dofollow for nearly 18 months before switching to nofollow. You will know when you should stop giving dofollow. For me, I’m not able to spend time moderating few hundreds of comments each day.

  8. It makes sense what you are doing. Unfortunately many people fail to add value to their posts and are simply looking for backlinks. To bad you can’t dofollow just posts that contain valuable/helpful comments.

    • Atniz says:

I guess there are plugins to do that on wordpress. Not so sure what is the name. But, again it is all depend on the time that we can spend on the blog on moderating. If your blog gets few hundreds of comments each day, moderating it can be time consuming. So, it is good to find a better solution rather than picking comments to give dofollow value.

  9. Yanjiaren says:

I always enjoy reading your blog so it doesn’t matter for me. I always get confused with SEO and think I belong to the divs section but I need to leanr more, reading through your blog posts and experiences.

  10. Not sure if its a good idea to make one’s blog No Follow, since it will hurt traffic in the short term.

Unless you’re one of those Celebrity Bloggers (Chow, et al.)….No Follow is like “Blog Suicide.”

    • Atniz says:

I agree with you Matt. It is a short term effect as the traffic drops almost 20-30% from normal rate. But, I’m slowly getting more traffic referred from search engine recently after turning off dofollow. Not sure why is that happening. But, overall it looks like it is heading a positive way at least interms of traffic.
