dead-of-blog-advertisingChances of earning money from blog reducing each day as advertisers are attracted to many other advertising opportunities. The only reason to advertise on blog is to get buzzed where blog advertising should give rel=”nofollow” value to all advertising links. Nofollow link is not useful in Google’s search engine and it will not pass pagerank juice. So, I couldn’t think of any reason other than get Buzzed for blog advertising.

How does blog advertising going to end? There are several other interactive ways to get buzzed especially with Twitter. Many advertisers who seeking for buzz turning to Twitter advertising instead blog. The chronology of online marketing are changing in fast pace. First, it was email marketing. Advertising from blogs earns good credit and exposure since 2005. Now, Twitter is slowly taking blog’s place. From the amount of twitter users and it’s exponential growth in new members, I can only see it becoming a threat to blog advertising.

With instant buzz over the net, Twitter have higher chance to take over blog advertising. The only reason that can keep advertisers to advertise on blogs these days is for backlink and SERP value. Blog advertising have survived nofollow rules from google. Lately, getting buzzed has been switched to twitter instead of blogs. If there are chances of blog advertising failed in future, Twitter can be one of the main reason for it. What is you opinion?

Even if twitter can do reviews, I believe blog advertising still has its advantage. Like what you said, “The only way that a blog can survive is to attract more visitors.” You can do this by providing quality content.

  2. Andrew says:

I’d have to disagree. As Technochase says twitter is useless for reviews and as Matt points out, content is and always will be king.

Twitter does certainly have a place and will continue to make ground in advertising but the advertising opportunities will be very limited to high profile people with massive follower numbers.

The benefit of blog advertising has various levels and elements.

I also don’t see any relevance to nofollow on this topic as Googles policies state all advertising and affiliate links must be nofollow and it’s been that way for a long time. I don’t think it’s likely to change either.

    1. Reviews – good for up to a week or until the review fades into the archives
    2. Topical posts – integrate an offer that has longevity into a pillar article and it could continue to earn revenue well after it has faded into the archives.
    3. Banner advertising – most profitable once you have a solid readership, but this is essentially never ending. It’s 2 fold effect is that the banners can either be direct sponsors or affiliate promotions.

Twitter on the other hand is only useful if your followers see it or if your lucky enough for someone to be searching for your tweets. So you circle of influence needs to be much more far reaching than your blog to get the big offers from advertisers.

Big offers always comes with good numbers of traffic. The only way that a blog can survive is to attract more visitors. Everyone have their own opinion on advertising channels. I agree with Matt’s point that content is always King. That is true in most cases. What I’m worry is that Twitter could overtake Google in search business too. If you notice the ranking of Twitter keep increasing since last year exponentially.

  3. There is no substitute for CONTENT. Sites needing TRAFFIC will place ads in strategic sites, no follow be damned. Although savvy bloggers may demand “Do Follow” (text based) links for their hard-earned dollars. It really depends on the numbers. A site with 10,000+ readers is very powerful, and that’s when you can call the shots over your advertisers!

    • Work At Home says:

I agree with that Matt. Numbers plays important role. What I worry is that twitter is gaining good number of new users each day. If twitter can deliver good number of ROI instead of blog, that could be seriously damage blog earners.

There is always something new coming along. I think Twitter will struggle some day and run into competition just like MySpace has with FaceBook. I have been introduced to a new site called TipDrop which works on a similar basis as Twitter but you can earn money with the program.

    Thanks for your post

  5. Technochase says:

    Twitter can’t do reviews. Period.

  6. I don’t think Twitter will be the end of it. Twitter is for now still a small way to get out info. They are limited to the number of characters and therefor I think there is still a need for blogging and the buzz will and shall continue!

  7. I don’t think blog advertising is dead simply it will have to become smarter and better. For example, if there is a site about healthy and beauty it should not have links to a gambling website. Nofollow should be only used for very blatant unrelated sites that you link to. You shouldn’t consider linking to bad neighbourhoods even if they are related or using nofollow.
