Next Page Rank Update September 2009
For the first time, Atniz.com have lost PR from from PR4 to PR3. I was not really concentrating on blogging for few months ago due to some personal reason. Thank god my brother got married and goes to work now. Now, I have more time to spend on the blog and some SEO works for clients. I blog main about page rank in this blog and it is sad to see the drop on last June 09 update. I am working on some backlink building campaign for this blog. Hopefully, can see some positive results on next update.
However, for many page rank is not really important issue as SERP ranking and traffic. Of course, getting to a top spot on highly competitive keywords gives a lot of targeted visitors. More traffic means more incoming money. So, instead of concentrating on how to high PR, concentrate on increasing SERP ranking is a good idea. Plus, when you concentrate on increase SERP ranking on google, you need to deal with only dofollow links. Therefore, it will indirectly help our page rank to boost up too.
I’m hoping to get back my PR4 in next google update. You can comment on dofollow blogs at my dofollow search engine to increase PR. What was your expection on next PR update?

Sorry to hear about your drop in pagerank. Unfortunately that is often what happens when you stop working on a site. In time many of your links get archived putting them on a lower PR page. In turn that lowers your own PR. As you write on a blog less, you get less natural links too.
You are definitely right in your strategy to be more concerned with rankings and traffic. In the end pagerank is only good for selling ads. Traffic is what really matters.

Thanks for your kind words. I agree that if we stop working on a blog, the ranking will eventually drops. A good example is my PR. I hope to gain it back in next update.

Nearly everyone lost PR in the last update, even DP got docked from PR 6 to PR 4. Just keep building links and your PR will come back….I know mine will.
Based on recent experience, the PR updates seem to be more random and more frequent than before. Sometimes only a month between TBPR updates!

It was not expected. I was expecting somewhere in July. But, I’m glad it never goes lower than PR3. Hope to see some good PR in next update.

I do not think there is any particular time that PRs are updated. I lost my PR3 as soon as I linked up to my blog all those that left their comments eversince I got my blog started. That is over a hundred links. I have removed those links thereafter. Then yesterday, I was surprised to note that I got my PR back but this time it is only PR2. So, Matt is right PR updates are done at random

PR penalty and removal take random place. But, overall PR update takes 3 months.

Do you attribute the drop to the PR bleed from having do follow blog comments?

No, I don’t. It is basically from lack of link building. Recently, I have concentrated more on client’s project for link building and neglected for Atniz blog. I think that is the reason.

I believe that PR is as important as SERP. PR can also increase the traffic of a certain blog by rendering it credibility. So instead of comforting yourself by saying that “PR is not really important issue as SERP ranking and traffic, find ways to recover your former PR.

Usually, PR is referred for advertising purpose only. As for SERP ranking, PR is unrelated. SERP is fully depends on SEO of onsite and offsite.

I have a really established blog with great traffic. It was a PR3. But then I joined in PPP and got smacked with a 0. After removing all PPP links, I was glad to see PR3 again.
Recently, I became careless and started doing those $5 per posts for PayU2Blog…it’s now PR0 again
Thanks for the info that the next update will be in Sept. Will clean up the links and keep my fingers crossed for PR3 again!
By the way, when you mention commentators’ links, do you mean the links they post in their comments, which bring visitors to their individual posts or other sites?

You are very lucky to get your penalty removed at first place. One of my blog’s penalty never been removed even after a year. I have removed all dofollow from paid posts even deleted it. No changes. I think %5/post is not worth of losing PR3. I wish you PR to get back to normal in next update. I wish you good luck.

Thanks for coming back. Yes, I try to reply all the comments on this blog. It is a good lesson I learned from Neil Patel from Quicksprout.com
I wish to get PR4 in next update. My current internal page’s PR is too low. Hope to get some PR in next update too.

Yeah, it really does suck when you have put all the hard work in to increasing your PR than it drops. The past update our sites homepage stayed on 5 but a lot of our subpages dropped to 4, 3 and 2.
Even though our subpage PR dropped, our actual rankings didn’t move. Which goes to show that PR has very little to do with actual rankings. I consider PR to be more like an award or trophy that Google gives you, which is still good to get.

I like the part you said, PR is more like an award or trophy that google gives you.
In fact it is true. PR don’t help you SERP ranking and don’t help us to get good traffic either. Good luck for next PR update.

As far as I know, SERP is mostly dependent on keywords in page text and if the page title exactly equals the search keyword it will get high SERP. SERP is more related to what the search keyword is therefore google use it to drive more cash thru adwords program because PR listing weren’t bringing the related quality pages all the time.

SERP ranking involve both onsite and offsite. Having keyword in title, text body, other tags is just onsite seo measurement which contribute rarely 20% to increase our SERP ranking. The higher percentage is coming from your backlinks. If you are talking about google, then only dofollow backlinks helps offsite seo.

My websites and blogs keep on gaining and losing page ranks. Yeah, I find frequency of posting helps in achieving better page rank apart from quality backlinks.

One of the things I just found out is that my site’s SERP jumped tremendously if I post more frequently rather than once every week or two weeks.

I don’t see that on my site yet. But, logically thinking, the more post we do, the more frequent google bot will visit our blog and index all our pages. The more pages indexed, gets more exposure indirectly increase traffic from search engine too.

You’re right, concentrate more on serp. Cause even low pr site can rank high tru SEOing. But of course, high pr can beautify a site for some

Now, we have one more reason to get high PR. “To Beautify”. SERP is more important compared to PR. But, I’m praying to get back my PR4 in next google PR update too. Hehehe

Backlinks with dofollow is the only shown way from Matt Cutts that can help us increase pagerank. Get more backlinks (dofollow) from high PR sites / pages with low outbound links to increase PR faster.

I think the update frequency depends on the kind of site you are building. For example, brand sites for brand clients seem to attract more faster updates than non branded ones at the moment.
I also think that Google (& co) update PR internally regularly and may be holding back on the publishing of it to the public.

Top sites that update frequently get internal pages PR update frequently compared to common blogs or website. I have seen it too. Although, top level domain PR is still remain unchanged for many until the next PR update which will take place every 3-4 months once.
