Healthy Blog Post Title Length
When you write a blog post, what will be the best length for the title? My best answer is 3 – 5 words. A good blog post title always have lesser words instead of 10 words or more. Keywords plays an important role in any blog post or articles. Some SEO experts advice to use important keywords in post title. In this case, how about long tail keyword? Using long tail keyword in title might lead to lengthy title in permalink. This may look spammy for many.
Stuffing all those important keywords in title surely gives a bad impression in permalink view. However, we can always insert one important keyword in title and leave the rest on content section. I come to this conclusion because about 60 – 70% top search results and some keywords searched in google shows 3 – 5 words length title blog post. What is your opinion on healthy length blog post title?

Now you have me thinking my titles are way too long! My last post had 10 words (counting things like or, and, in). I was focusing on descriptive titles but now I’m wondering if thats a bad thing?

Yes, I think that about 3 to 5 words is good. I also think that it’s worth putting at least one major, oft-searched for keyword in the title. Then put some less competitive keywords in there as well.
I always remember the long tail traffic I got on a blog I write about news and politics. I posted about John McCain telling a joke about Chelsea Clinton. I had “McCain” and “Chelsea” in the post title, and I ended up on page one of results for searches for those two words together. Got a lot of hits as a result.
Of course, I couldn’t have competed for either one of those words on their own. But there weren’t that many other bloggers who put both names in their blog post titles, so I ranked highly.
Something to remember …

In my opinion the blog post title should be relevant to the content in the post..and i make my title in this way..
Some times I get visitors on my site who have actually searched for the title on google.

Yes, it is. Perfect title explains better about the whole article. But, length just made it look spammy.

I would agree that 5 words is typically the best length for blog titles. That is enough words to provide context without being excessive.

I guess there is not concrete rule about this idea. Maybe unless it is relevant you can extend your title to 6 on so on.

Most commonly search engine will only display 65-70 letters in title section. Long title usually truncated to reach this figure or they will add … at the end of the title. This does not mean they don’t use it in indexing. They only able to display 70 character limit on the title section. Same goes for meta description as it limits up to 160 letters.
