Recently, I’ve done a simple experiment on one highly search keyword (2 million+ average search a month). From position of 87th place, I’ve gathered dofollow anchored keyword link from 10 PR6 with blog commenting. The results, I’ve manage to push the ranking to rank 23rd within 2 days time. This experiment proves that using keyword in dofollow blogs while commenting will increase SERP ranking. High PR pages will give good boost. However, it is not easy to find high PR pages that allows keyword in name section.
My suggestion is to actively comment on all latest post on high PR dofollow blogs using your targeted keyword. There are higher possibility of some of the recent blog posts to gain high PR in next google update. It will definitely help you increase your SERP ranking after the PR update. Commenting on new blog post on high PR dofollow blogs might not give a good boost now, but after Page rank update, you will be able to see some positive climbs.
Even if it is nofollow attribute, hyperlinked keyword will certainly give a boost in other search engines like Yahoo, MSN, etc.

I agree. There are many SEO experts involved in this. If we choose high competitive keywords, we might need to fight with big whales out there.

Atniz, in case you didn’t notice, my signature at DP has been “Karaoke Music DJ” in my anchor text hyperlink for the last 6 weeks. My site is now #1 for that KW phrase. I have about 600 posts at DP. Everywhere else, my anchor is “Sacramento Weddings” or Sacramento wedding DJ” (or Matt from Sacramento Weddings at CommentLuv blogs).

Wow! Congratulations for getting #1 spot there. I wish to get top 10 spot for “Work At Home” too. I guess it might take one or two years to be there. Obviously, using keyword helped you out well in SERP ranking there.

I think your title lacks the word “Ranking.”
In my case I just choose sites that are worth to be commented and interests me. It is much easier for me to leave any reaction on posts from a site that way.

I also did have some success with do follow comments , Although you can have some success with it for highly competitive key words I think you need some quality within content back links as well. Lovely blog layout btw.
