Page Rank Is Your Green Money
Pagerank is ranking system set by Google. The more quality (dofollow) backlinks will increase our page rank. The more outgoing dofollow links from our site to reduce our page rank (PR). One single paid post with dofollow link to your advertiser detected by Google will slash our PR to ground ZERO level (no matter what is your page rank, it will get penalty to zero). This is the rules of page rank. The higher page rank shows that your site has higher number of quality backlinks. It means that people refer to your site from their website or blog.
A quality site need to have PR5 and above. Most of the success Internet Company will have higher page ranks. Some SEO experts even declared that the Internet industry is owned by PR7+ blogs and websites. For any keyword we search in google, the reflected first page search results (most of the sites) will have higher PR. So, if you want your project or blog to stay competitive, increase your page rank. There is only one way to do that. Link building!
As everyone knows, content is the king of Internet. Queen is Link Building. Please don’t involve in any high number of backlink generation activities as it may trigger google red alert to mark your site as link farming and get penalty. Link building activity should be consistent and moderate level. If you can get 10 backlinks a day and suddenly you racked 1,000 backlinks in a day, it might mark you as spamming. Increasing at moderate level is the safest way in link building.
Google not encourage us to buy or sell link with dofollow attribute. So, buying or selling links with dofollow might get our blog penalized. However, there are many other ways you can gather dofollow backlinks to your blog without spending a penny. You can actively involved in dofollow social bookmarking sites, dofollow article directory submission, dofollow blog commenting, link exchanges, top commentators, recent dropper and top dropper, etc.

For some reason I was under the impression that these days people are worrying less and less about PR and just concentrating on SEO and good content. People can get a bit obsessed about the whole PR thing.

hi Gerri,
I agree with you also. Nowadays, SEO is given more importance as the targeted traffic is the survival oxygen for any online business. Page rank will improve if our SEO (link building) is good.

Hi Jhangora,
Good luck and always keep in mind that it is hard to survive without a queen. Link building is very important after contents.

I won’t agree with your post. Generally it’s ok but number of quality links isn’t as necessary as PageRank of sites linking to your blog. One link from PR7 site can give you PR5 within next update. Ten links from PR5 site will give to PR4.
Big G. penalizes for sponsored articles… When they know it’s sponsored. If you conceal your links well you can sleep calmly.

Hi Jim,
Nobody can predict or calculate what will be our PR. I’m sure a link from PR7 will give heavy value (only dofollow) towards page rank but not necessary we will get PR5. Do you have any prove to show this?
Also, 10 links of PR5 will give PR4? How you get this details? I don’t see any note telling this anywhere in google/webmaster tool.
G penalize on sponsored post. I agree on that but try to use nofollow on all paid links even in paid posts. This will make sure that the link is not crawled and indexed in google.

It’s my experience Atniz. I noticed that with my fresh site. I got 2 backlinks. One from PR6 site, second from pr0 and I got PR4.
SiteA links to SiteB. If the link is placed somewhere on the site and number of links doesn’t exceed ~20 then siteB will have PR of siteA-2
10*siteC linking to siteD will give PageRank of sitesC-1
Of course there are many other factors but these are tested and as for now they work very well.

You have your point, Jim and you are right too that natural inlink within the site is worth more than a sitewide link such as blogroll (number of links doesn’t exceed ~20).
Nice work on your PR5 too.

Great article, thank you. Link building is the only way to get a higher PR. This process should be well thought and planned. Links should be built gradually and continuously. Google is quite suspicious towards the sites that get a thousand links per day. That is not a way to go. The best way is to get maybe 10 links from good quality sites per day.

Hi Reena, My site was pr5 for a long time then I switched to a blog and it dropped to zero. Its back up to pr3 now. I really don’t pay much mind to it but I wouldn’t do a paid post even if it wasn’t a no-no. Great points.

Link building is definitely the queen but it has to be done in moderation. Too fast too soon could easily raise a red-flag on Google radar.

It is almost impossible for Google to detect a purchased link. That said, you really don’t need to pay for links if you have a good quality system and plan for Internet marketing and SEO.

Having a high PR is great and all, but most of us should really be targeting high SERP positions. But having a PR 6 blogs can give you lots of money if you plan to sell links.

Hi Mike,
I’m targeting to get PR 5 or 6 in next update too. Hope I can reach it. SERP is very important as it gives more targeted traffic than any sources. I have shared a secret on increasing SERP with Entrecard. Hope you will like it.

Page rank is important but it isn’t as important in rankings as anchor text is, a site with pr 3 can beat a site with pr 7 if the pr 7 isn’t optimized for that keyword. I always wondered how google can tell if a link is paid for? Cause it just looks like a regular link. Im thinking the only way is if someone reports it or they say it publicly.
