aboutusHaving a good “About” page for a blog is very important. This tells the visitors that there is a real person behind this site. This is where you start to build your online profile, not myspace, facebook or etc. It is on your own platform. We got to use social bookmarking channels to bring in more traffic and backlinks.

Here is the list of details that you can include in your about page:

1. Photo
2. Video Intro (Youtube/other embedded)
3. Name
4. Born place, year, hometown, current location.
5. About your family
6. Education qualifications
7. Your other active websites/blogs/projects URL
8. Your past
9. Your present
10. Your future plans
11. Subscribing button / email option
12. Follow On Twitter
13. You can find me here > Myspace, Facebook, Blogcatalog, Technorati, Stumbleupon, Digg, Reddit, and other social bookmarking site links.

The above list is just guidance. You can select the important factors to be added in your About page. Remember, About page is where your visitors, advertisers, fans, loyal readers will get to know you better. Having a good about page is very important for this reason.

  1. this is my favorite part of every page blog I used to manage – ABOUT

  2. Give enough info without getting too personal.

I really never bother with my about page that much. This is very helpful for sure

  4. So are you essentially saying we should be creating a wikipedia for our site in the about section?

    • Atniz says:

It is not wiki type, as long as our visitors knows more about the real person behind the screen will do. The more he know the better to gain the confidence of the readers.

  5. good list to consider in writing a good about page. I’m planning to make mine but i’m using a blogger blog and I don’t think it can support those what you have listed. But I will try to look on this if I could customized it to provide such feature.

  6. I think that is a great list for a blog. It may however not be appropriate for businesses. Typically there is more than just one person behind a business.

Even on a business site I do like to see at least a mini description about some of the key people. Like the head of CS. It doesn’t not have to be in depth but, at least something so I feel comfortable with their names, and why they are qualified to handle my business.

  7. Hi Happy Friday night no telling what day it is there :) I wanted to wish you a Happy Valentines I hope they have that all over the world. About page is very important and mine isn’t all that great but it has the basic info. great post hey do you know about
aboutus.org ? they have the google juice and you can make a wiki etc about you and your site it’s an awesome site and the owners are cool people.

I agree that many times I want to know who it is that is talking to me.

I think having an “about me” page also gives the writer a little more authority. I guess if I can know a bit about them then, I feel they are taking responsibility for what they write.

  9. This is what I search for on every new blog that I land.

Since I search the details of the man behind the blog on other blogs, it was the first page indeed I wrote on my blog!

  10. I’ve been meaning to update my “about” page for a while now and after reading your advice, I think it’s about time I got on and did it and try to fill in as much info as possible from the list that you have recommended.
