Work At Home from Urban or Rural Area

this is what u get in urban area The trend of work place is shifting slowly to home office. Most of us already have a office room in our house. Either you work for a company or you are doing your own business. Having a home office can help you to concentrate in work. There are a lot problems working at home. We must depend on Internet connection for work at home businesses. Internet and phone is the gateway for our online businesses. I’m staying in a congested town with over 2 million people staying on a small island. My home town is in Taiping, Perak where it is known as retired people’s town. I’m using broadband connection of 1Mb for both addresses. During peak hours, I only can get 10 – 40 Kb/s in Penang (Urban area). Whereas, in my hometown, the same connection brings me 100 – 150 Kb/s during peak hours. Obviously, the connection is 3 to 4 times higher than urban area. I checked with the service provider (Streamyx) about this. The informed me that there is a bandwidth limit for all areas. The usage and dependence of Internet in urban area is higher, that is why I get such low rate. I’m seriously considering moving to a rural area where there are no blocks of apartments or stretch of terrace houses. I’m seriously thinking about renting a “Kampung House” (Village house) just to try the connection speed. Doing full time home business, we need to have high speed Internet connection. The more speed you have, the better opportunity you can get. I don’t waste my bandwidth downloading movies or video files. To bring our home business to next level, we need faster connection. Getting a faster connection in urban area can be very costly and still we can’t enjoy the full benefit because of congested usage. How about your area? Are you planning to move too?

never in my mind, if i drive to office with that situation. Very crowd and wasted time. I think you must drive to office early or never go to office, and work at HOME… -SSSmile-

  2. I live in an urban area and work in a rural. We don’t get problems either end….but still I’m made to go into the office everyday!

  3. I really can’t complain but I do anyway ;) I live in the US where we have several options but it’s still frustrating when something as simple as an internet connection is holding us back.

I started with high-speed broadband from our cable company. It was incredibly fast. Then, as businesses often do, they realized they could break it into several speeds and charge more for more bandwidth. I recently switched to satellite so now I have broadband DSL. There is no change with things like surfing or blogging but it’s very slow when uploading large files to the server or downloading backups.

I use verizon wireless for my laptop and I’m in love with it. It’s a little slower than the DSL but it made my home office portable. I can get internet access almost anywhere on my laptop now.

Happy to hear that you found a good connection that allows you to move around. I think, there are not many willing to invest in bandwidth or broadband industry. If the competition rises, surely, the services will improve too.

Try subscribing to 2MB speed. If your connection is slow just dial 100 and ask them to check any problem with your connection. Sometimes in might speed up the connection -smile-

My area, they don’t have 2MB connection. I have been trying for months to get at least 2MB (max is 4MB), there are no ports available in Penang for 2MB for now. This is what the TM Point service center told me. About the connection, I tried calling 100, and yes, they sent their technician on the next day to solve the problem. At least, now I’m getting 50 – 80kb/s. Not bad for a 1Mb connection in urban area.

I have wife connection problems some days. As in…..my wife knows that I’m home so I should be connecting with all of the chores around the house. Not the same as a bandwidth issue, but still slows u down.

Lol if you work from home then there won’t be traffic jam problems like the one shown in the photo!

  7. Check out if any wireless broadband connection is available.
