Nine Months Old Blog Have 21,000 Backlinks
Atniz dot com is 9 months old now (as of Jan 2009) and successfully gathered 21,000 backlinks pointing to it during this period. Some might say it is impossible to get this kind of backlinks. Trust me, this is not that hard to achieve. Believe it or not, most of the backlinks is the results of commenting on other blogs. Please check smartpagerank and backlinkwatch showing Atniz have 21,000 backlinks and growing.
Previously, I was actively commenting around 150 – 200 comments a day and gave up in a month time. Lately, I found out another new method that helps me to get thousands of backlinks from minimal workload. If you see on my right column, there is a widget name “Top Commentators”. This widget has been set up as dofollow and gives page rank juices for my top commentators. I choose to show this widget on my main page only. Not all bloggers who have installed this widget does that. Most of them show it on all the pages in their blog. Let’s say the blog is 2 years old and have more than 300 pages and you able to get on the list of top commentators widget. You will get 300 backlinks from just one domain to your site.
If you could get on the list of 10 new sites with top commentators widget, you would easily get 3,000 backlinks pointing to your site. Of course, this is just the simple calculation. Currently, I have subscribed to over 100 sites that gives dofollow top commentators links. My guess is that 21,000 is just a beginning. By year end, the possibility of backlinks could jump to 100k is high. Well, this is my secret of getting higher backlinks with dofollow to our blog. If you have any secret please share it.

Congrats!
Since you love commenting so much, you should use BackType. With BackType, you can even get more backlinks! Google it.

Hi,
You know, I tried to learn more about the value of backlinks being on homepages versus several subdirectories away from the root, but the person (expert) I asked never answered. Do you know about this aspect of ranking?
My interest is in spreading the idea of the Christian Commons Project, but anyone trying to increase traffic would benefit from better understanding this area.
If you know about it, please share.
I’ll subscribe to comment updates on this post now.
God bless you.
By the way, the Real Liberal Christian Church site is also a comment-dofollow site with a homepage page rank right now of 4.

Hi Tom Usher,
Please check my previous post http://atniz.com/2008/11/12/how-to-value-dofollow-back-links/
I hope it clears your question. However this is just a guideline. Because, certain specific page will have higher page rank that is rewarded by google. You need to check the current page’s page rank to know the value of your backlink.
I have visited your site couple of times before from Entrecard. Thanks for your comment, I will be visiting your post more frequently and will subscribe to your blog.
Happy New Year!

I’m in awe of your link building skills. Thank you for these great tips. Your pagerank attests to their success.
I perhaps have one tip to share regarding finding dofollow blogs. Search for
keyword “Enable CommentLuv which will try and get your last blog post, please be patient while it finds it for you”
where keyword is your niche keyword or key phrase. CommentLuv comments are dofollow by default.
I’ve added your blog to my blog roll.
All the best for the New Year!

excellent article! A+
I just wanted to add that Google has very slowly stopped counting many types of links without really telling anyone. For example, check your “similar links” in Google serps (look up your site using “link:”) and you won’t see any internal links from the similar links sections. Webmaster tools still shows them but regular search results don’t anymore.
The BEST kind of links are the ones that exist on the page when it is first published OR the kind that are still there 6 months down the road – trust me, I’ve done my homework on this.
Great job and great blog Atniz.

Although this amount of back links impressive, I do not really like the idea of commenting on other people’s blogs just because one needs to increase the number of back links.Comments on other people’s blogs should be motivated by the desire to exchange ideas, provoke more thinking and develop one another’s understanding of issues.Commenting for the sake of increasing the number of back links is tantamount to spamming and it must be discouraged at all costs.
Actually, it is important for a blogger to concentrate on building their own turf first before moving out to comment on other people’s blogs. If a blogger writes excellent content, back links will come naturally.
Finally, relying on the existence of the top commenters widget on other people’s blogs for back links is equally not a good idea because it is so dynamic as it depends on your activity. In the long run, one would become a comment slave simply because he wants his blog’s link to feature on many domains.

I am here because of a comment you made on my blog which unfortunately ended up in my Akismet spam list. As your message looked genuine I came along to look at your site. I approved the comment once I saw that your blog is genuine too
Unfortunately, because of spammers, hard working bloggers who make the big effort to leave a lot of comments. like yourself. can also get penalized in this way.

Hi Clement,
This blog is about blogging. I try my best to do good in SEO and still learning. I’m just 9 months old experience in all this stuff. All my comments are related to the posts. I read the post and comment on it. It is not spamming. I got a software that post comments on recent post. So, writing comments like “Good post” “Nice article, thank you”, “Where have you been for so long?” etc is not my style.
You can refer SezWho list for my previous comments for the record.

Hi “Small Hosting”
Google will not show any repeated backlinks from same domain. Plus only dofollow links. So, it is low. I’m still building my dofollow backlinks. Obviously, there is huge difference from nofollow and dofollow backlinks overall.

@Atniz:I deliberately took my time and left my detailed maiden comment on this article so that people who read your post should not be carried away and start spamming other people’s blogs. My blog uses the top commenter, the commentluv and the dofollow plug ins and I get a lot of spammy comments.
It is good to learn that you read the post and leave legitimate comments. I encourage you to continue in that path.If you continue to leave worthy comments on many blogs, you will continue to get a lot of back links but other bloggers will also link to your blog on their own accord because they like your input on their blogs. These folks will also visit your blog and even promote your articles through social media just like I have done with this article by stumbling and reviewing it.
Lets continue exchanging ideas.

Hi Clement,
Thanks for the stumble and review. I have just shared my secret of getting high backlinks in short period of time. Of course, there is no possible way to get 21k backlinks from commenting alone. Top Commentators widget and other type of blogroll widgets that gives sidewide links is the major contributor here. One 2 or 3 years blog might have thousands of pages. So, getting on the top commentators list in this type of blog gives us 1000s of backlinks from just one site. Clearly, this is not healthy for the giver. But, very healthy for the taker.
We are having a constructive discussion here. You are passing enough page ranks and can say a lot more than usually people do. I think, bloggers that is giving sidewide links should take note of this point. If you have any of this type of links, maybe you should do something about it. My Top Commentators widget was sidewide, now it is only made for main page using http://webgrrrl.net/ widget.

Just a small piece of SEO advice for you Atniz:
Even if you have millions of “nofollow” links, they are useless may be just good to increase your link count for advertiser point of view. A single dofollow link is worth more than tons of nofollow links and I’ve made a lot of research on this with keywords. A single dofollow link will elevate your page in the search results to top while infinite number of nofollow links cannot.

Its true. But, since Yahoo is unstable on its search business, we all need to depend on google. And for google, nofollow is nothing. Only dofollow contributes. I have learned this lesson only after few months of blogging.

Good work. I don’t see that nofollow links are useless at all. 35k Alexa rank and only 290 sites indexed, thats a nice portion of traffic you are getting there.
