Search Engine Traffic
Most of us don’t bother about search engine traffic anymore these days since the existence of social networking services like Myspace, Friendster, Facebook, Digg, Stumbleupon, Yahoo Buzz, Entrecard, Blogcatalog, Mybloglog, etc. Of course, the traffic at social networks sites rules the world of Internet. If a webmaster who don’t utilize this social traffic to their clients, then he or she might face a lot of hardship to achieve their target traffic that they need to provide to their customer.
Getting a decent amount of traffic from social networks is easy. With Entrecard itself, some are getting more than 500 visits a day. We are not talking about other methods like Buzz, Digg, Facebook, etc here. If anyone can utilize all the social network section, they might even get Alexa 4 figure ranking. But, maintaining a good response with other social network sites take a lot of time. We need to add more friends, increase our visibility and take part in various networking sections.
At the end, we might fully depend on this traffic and totally forget about search engine traffic. Search engine traffic brings in more targeted traffic compared to social networking traffics. People are looking for some “keywords” in search engine a will dig deeper until they get the answer they want. This is the potential traffic for our business. So, if you are looking for serious traffic and good buyers for your website, you need to look in to SEO (Search engine optimization) for your business.
There are so many ways to bring up our site in top 10 or top 3 ranking in search results. But, getting this top spot is not an easy task. It might take a lot of time for continuous SEO methods to push our link up in the search engine results. For example, if your website is selling “watch”, there are 24+ million searches done in October 2008 on this keyword in google. Imagine of getting the top 3 spots for this keyword, your website might be getting hundreds of thousands visits each day. No other social networks can get you this traffic.
Hope you are clear about the importance of SEO for your business website or blog. Having a million dollar website with 10 years of advance technology applied in your website programs for your visitors, but you have not done any SEO for it, then this million dollar website investment might be equivalent to dead a site. Of course, nobody wants that to happen for their investment. If you are not making any good visitors, customers or money from your website, then it is better to start your SEO engine for it.

I use a handy SEO wordpress plugin on the Blazing Minds blog it works quite well with constructing the keywords for my pages and enables me to add/delete my own, I wouldn’t do without it. I also have plugin which adds a strip of graphics at the bottom of each post which allows the post to be submitted to a collection of social network sites.

Atniz, I totally agree. I would choose search traffic over the social kind any day of the week. Of course any traffic is good, but I find search traffic to be of much higher quality.

This is an interesting post. I already download some of the reading material about SEO (Just out of curiosity). I noticed that blog with specific keywords, such as “making money” or “making money online” drives more traffic to the site. I am not sure mine will attract much, but hey, nothing wrong for learning it right?
Thanks for sharing (This reminds me to update my blog feed in Facebook

I totally agree that we should consider SEO and since the algorithms of SE changes everyday we should keep up with this so that we could cope up with this kind of changes in rankings. Got any idea about the effect of SearchWiki on SE rankings?

Hi Atniz.
I would rather have more search engine traffic than social. It´s the type of traffic you don´t have to work (like in EC) to get it, only seo your site.
As I mentioned in a previous comment, I think it´s the best targeted traffic a niche blogger can have, it also means you´re ranking well.
A good week.

Right On, Having a Great Social Network exposure is great but doesn’t mean squatt if you don’t have a great SEO in place aswell. Utilize both and success will surely come. P.S I found your website via Entrecard

I get the bulk of my traffic from Google. As you say, the Social Networks are pretty easy, but take a lot of time. You can get hundreds of friends, but if you don’t stumble, digg, or otherwise vote up their stuff on a regular basis, they will not be voting up your stuff.
Google likes keywords-and it is not that hard to write a 300 word post with about 25 keywords dropped in here and there.

It doesn’t matter from where does your traffic come.. How much matters…
Never keep all your eggs in the same basket.. Make sure the traffic your getting from a particular site is not more than 35-40% of your over all traffic. The reason is if your huge traffic sources bans you, or throws you a few pages back.. you will lose all your traffic from that source
Just my 2 cents.

I would completely agree with you Atniz. And i wanna share my experience on it as far. As i started my blog without trying to bring a single visitor to my blog . Then after one month i got indexed and recieved a visitor on my blog from google. That means my blog was now seo very well. Then i started posting regularly and work on keywords of posts by searching them to google my title i wanna give to post ansh how many sites are my competitiors. Then i started recieving 15-20 visitors. Then i thought of advertise my blog then started using entrecard and my traffic got to 50 visitors but were less then started 300 drops for some days my traffic got to 150 But realized my bounce rate to greater than 75% then stopped using entrecard. And now its well seo and google is giving a constant traffic of 50 visitors and My page rank =0 as i say all it works is seo.
Now trying to get some good backlinks to beat some keywords above than me in google.
And i completely work on it. So i advice to use social bookmarking with mixxing of seo to have great result. Because in social bookmarking you have to work daily but once you worked on seo you only have to sit and post.
I think i should have conducted post on it so long comment

I mostly focus on search engine traffic, myself. While social network/bookmarking sites can bring a lot of traffic, some (like stumbleupon) tend to bring visitors that don’t stay very long. Search engine traffic is the most targeted, IMO.

I agree with Mizé comment “… social. It´s the type of traffic you don´t have to work…”
When I want to find something online, I personally go to a search engine first!
But having said that, I’ve been representing a new biz for the last 6 months – and we have received more sales through social networks than CEO to date – I imagine that will/should change in time… the sites Google page rank is 4… IS THAT ANY GOOD FOR A NEW SITE?
Parting comment – Social networks can be loads of work… but I think the trick is to work with something you love. Therefore, becoming involved in these groups can be fun and not so much work.

Hello,
I have been of late possessed by the issues you have posted in the last three-four articles here. I have managed to improve my Alexa ranking fairly sharply within a short period but not such luck with Google. I have been employing multiple SEO tools at the same time as being active on major social network sites. My success at getting back links has been low though I have campaigned though sticky post/badge about Do Follow as well as seriously commenting freely at good value sites. In fact my current post ‘Tribulations of an EVolving Blogger’ has an honest detailing tinged with humor but seriously, I’ve outlined major concerns. Will be delighted if you check it out and record some impressions.
Quite a few posts here of real good value. Will pick up all suggestions of value. Thanks.

I couldn’t agree more! This is also one of the most difficult points to explain to a client when talking about SEO, particularly if they are new to online marketing. It’s not always the highest traffic keywords that will gain the most sales.

first of all, a really nice article especially interesting for people who run a commercial website.
On personal websites (even when they are selling stuff) I think people tend to spend way too much energy in getting more traffic instead of putting interesting content. It seems so obvious maar I think a lot of bloggers for get that sometime.
