How to value dofollow back links?
First of all, we need to understand the value of back links. Backlinks will give significant value towards page rank calculation which will give more exposure in google search. Here is an example of backlinks value for a page rank 5 blog.
http://ncsdt.com – Page Rank 5
http://ncsdt/2008 – Page Rank 4
http://ncsdt.com/2008/07 – Page Rank 3
http://ncsdt.com/2008/07/04 – Page Rank 2
http://ncsdt.com/2008/07/04/PageRank.html – Page Rank 1
So, if you get a dofollow link from a blog post or comments that have page rank 5 blog, you only get backlink from a page worth of PR1. Imagine of getting a backlink from PR 4 or lower PR blogs. If you want to get backlinks, try your best to get from the main page sidebars dofollow links. You can find a lot of blogs giving dofollow links for “Top Droppers”, “Top Commentators”, “Recent Droppers” and “Recent Commentators” which you don’t have to pay and you can get it from your own effort. You can also exchange links with others.
I’m not saying that a dofollow blog post links or commenting on dofollow blogs does not give impact on your page rank. I’m trying to clarify the density and value of your dofollow backlinks here. The higher page rank dofollow link on main page side bars will have more contribution towards your page rank than dofollow blog comments or blog posts.
Accumulation of higher or lower dofollow backlinks is good and will reflect on next update. Make sure you don’t purchase any backlinks with dofollow or sell any links with dofollow as you might lose all the effort and get zero page rank penalty.

Hi Atniz.
I think the only problem I can find in commenting on dofollow blogs is spam. Since I made Night Clicks a dofollow blog, joining a dofollow network, I get alot of spam.
People put keywords all over comments and links to unrelated sites. I think that if you want to use this way of getting back links you gotta do it with class, I mean, at least write a smart comment after reading the whole post., right?
I can detect spam miles away and I delete all comments that I consider spammy.
You made a good point, not all pages of a website have PR, you need links in those that have.
A good thursday.xx

Interesting points, though I think it takes a lot of time to choose sites to comment on in this way. I keep meaning to spend more time commenting on dofollow blogs, but at the end of the day I usually comment on the posts that interest me. And for some reason I managed to get PR4 on the last update, so it’s not too bad

Very interesting.
But google page rank is complicated.
How come I’m given pr3 one moment and with the same effort and investment (to be honest, a bit more), I drop to 0 within a day.

Even though buying and selling links will give you penalty many webmasters follow this and take risks.

Hi Laane,
Regarding your paid posts, do you give dofollow links?
For examples: http://www.laaneworld.com/2008/11/girls-pink-and-electronics.html
Is this paid post? I can see the link is dofollow. Google is very sensitive on paid posts with dofollow. One of my blog lost its PR3 within a week after one post from PPP. I still haven’t get back my PR after changing back all paid post links to nofollow.
My suggestion is to remove all dofollow links (make it nofollow) and appeal back to google.

Hi,
I got nothing to back on there. My blog commenting is not dofollow. The post URL have zero PR. Main page got PR2. I share my page rank with dofollow to my top commentators and top droppers on my sidebar. It gives PR2 dofollow backlinks for all my top commentators and top droppers. Commenting on nofollow blogs will not get your URL indexed in google search and will not give any weight towards pageank calculations. But, nofollow comments will be indexed in Yahoo search. Yahoo index all dofollow or nofollow comments.

Very informative, thank you. I’m very new to “do follow” and I’m hoping I don’t get too much spam. I would imagine to avoid this I should moderate all comments. I don’t know how to find page ranks though, but I’ll do some researching.

You can use SearchStatus if you are using Mozilla Firefox, to see current PR on sites. Here is the link for it http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/

nofollow dont prevent from spam! so it is worthless, akismet is much more better.

you’re right! to post one comment is not all. if you try to post lots of comments and you get the top commentator you earn a dofollow link.

Hi,
I submitted a comment. Did it go to spam?
From the looks of the Ajax Edit plugin, I guess my previous comment was lost. I’ll try again some other time. It was rather long and detailed.
Good info!
Thanks.

Link building works whether a dofollow or nofollow link. Only the thing is where it is placed.

Google only gives credit to dofollow and that is why many are obsessed on dofollow links.
