What if I accidentally click on my own ads?
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. You can also follow me on Twitter. Thanks for visiting!
How many of us here have clicked on our own ads? Is it accidentally or just to make some extra bucks? This can be easily detected if you run ads from some big corps like google. So, it is best not to click on our own ads or exchange or motivate others to click it. Sometimes, we might accidentally click on our own ads.
I have faced this problem a few days ago and I’m so worried that my advertiser will ban my account. So, I tried contacting them, but it is almost impossible to find anyone that I can talk to. Some of the forum’s members guided me with this very useful link. Check it out.
So, don’t worry if you mistakenly clicked any of your ads. Please make sure you don’t click on your ads purposely or exchange ads clicks with others to earn penny as you may lose all your current earnings with account get blocked.
However, there is another way to block all those ads. Try installing Ad Block Plus plugin in your Firefox. This will block most of the ads shown on any sites. This does not include private ads. You can even block youtube videos using this plugin.

I use IP filtering to block any accidental hits. By telling the ad system my IP address (I have a static IP), they can then ignore any click from me. No accidental clicks then.

Hi Mar Matthias Darin,
You must be wealthy to get a static IP for yourself. I’m still using dynamic IP.

Hi Shaxx,
That is a minus point using this plugin. But, viewing ourselves as an blogger, we are working more towards webmaster role. We should offer ads not clicking on those ads.

What actually scares me the most is that a blogger friend says that he’s going to help me by clicking my ads.
I just said “don’t” to him lol. Sometimes I’m scared that there may be other friends who click my ads to help me out, even though I didn’t ask them to :{

If you click once on your ads, I don’t think google will notice about it. Your click will only show a big $0. But if you click a lot of time on your ads, like 2-5 times everyday. That what we can call cheating. Google will automatically notice about it because it shows the same IP address many time. Actually they do a average of click you can receive by thousand impression. If you CTR is higher than 5%, the red alarm will ring on google office. Because 5% of CTR is very hard to get with natural clicks.

I have accidentally clicked on google ads before just to test them after putting plugin on my site for first time. If you look at adsense, it doesn’t count clicks from your own site for the most part.

I wish… Static IPs are just very affordable where I live. Easier to police for the ISPs in my area.

While I understand your idea, I disagree with using that plugin other than when dropping Entrecards. To start with, my ads are targeted to webmasters and bloggers. I WANT you to click on my ads if you are interested in the products. Too bad Google has scared you so badly that your are afraid of an accidental click or two. No ad network will ban you for one or two accidental clicks. I click my ads and other people ads all the time. Sometimes I’m interested in the product, other times I want to know who’s ad it is, or the affiiate company behind the ad. Other times I click my own ad to test if the SID is working and clicks are being recorded properly.
Then again, I also run my own PPC ads,and I do track clicks. One person clicked my ad more than 270 times and the ad network saw nothing suspicious. I reported the person and got him banned. I think you are worried about nothing, and missing my great ads by using that plugin!

Do you make any money with adsense? I’ve had so much better luck with text-link-ads

If it is Google Ad’s, Google will drop a publisher who clicks there own ad’s. Accident or not.

I guess that depends if you have one “accident” ever, or one per day. All text link ads ever did for me was get my page rank lowered to a 1 for a time.

Though I don’t run any ads now, I may do so in the future. This was an excellent conversation I can learn from.

A lot of people don’t like AdBrite, but this is where they really excel over Google and many other companies. Their technology allows them to work around many of these issues and they work with the publisher to solve issues.

I happened to click my own ad once and sent a mail to google adsense guys to let them know the time and the page where accidental ad click was made. They were happy to hear to me.
It is always good to notify if we make any accidental click.

I totally agree with Turnip.2 or 3 self click wont harm you. Just don’t make use to it. We are human, Goggle will understand.
Self click wont happen to me as I only click entrecard and submit comment in my blog

Sounds a good plugin but unfortunately, it cannot be used with Blogger. To avoid getting invalid clicks with adsense so your account will not be banned, you can set you settings and filter the blogs that will show the ads. This way, you can be sure that even though there will be people clicking your ads and they are filtered, they will not be counted.
