Are you blogging for fun or money?

Blogging For Fun Or MoneyWho would say no to money? Everyone needs it. On my first attempt to blogging last year, I wanted to make some serious money and gave up blogging after only 3 months without making any money. Now, I’m on 6th month of consistent blogging and I learned a lot compared to my first attempt.

Money can be a good motivation to blogging but if your goal is merely to make money from blogging then you won’t make go far. Blogging needs deep interest and never expecting. Personally, I’m a comeback blogger too. I gave up and return back. This time I won’t leave blogging as I’m more addicted to it than ever before.

Here is a good example of those who don’t make any money from blogging. It is none other than the famous Monkey Fables who gets an average of 700+ visits each day for his blog and still not monetizing it. With that kind of traffic, he can be closer to Pro Blogger, Darren’s or John Chow traffic range.

If you don’t want to make any money from blogging, then you don’t have to worry about visit counts, SEO, attracting advertisers or sit like owl to grab paid post opportunities. If you want to make some money from blogging, then it is time for you to do some homework on all the above matters. A real blogger who wants to make money must be good in SEO, must know how to increase those rankings, and need to diversify ways on attracting more visitor mainly targeted visitors.

So, who said blogging for money is easy? Things can get real tough if your goal is to make money from blogging. All we need is the fire to never ever give up.

Now tell me again, are you blogging for fun or money?

I blog because I love to. I blog to share insights and of course, to make money. I would be hypocrite if I say I don’t blog to make money, because I do. That’s the reason my blog has ads in it.

This is of course a very interesting topic. Like you said you can’t have any success if money is the primary goal. While Monkey Fables is well-known in the blogging community, I understand why the webmaster wouldn’t monetize it. 700 visits a day is hardly enough to make money. It would only get maybe a few cents a day while risking losing visitors. At the same time, I monetize my blogs and I get about 100 unique visitors a day so it is really up to you. For me, I don’t mind the ads I like to think that I do not place them anywhere that would make you shy away from the core content.

Originally, it was for fun. But then I got a Twitter from you mentioning Entrecard, and that has slowly made me develop my site with all sorts of extras to try and make a little bit of money!
I’ve still got a lot to do, but I blame you :-)

  5. I’m actually blogging for fun and money. I’m a return blogger as well. I tried blogging once before back when Live Journal was really popular but quit after a few weeks. I just started to blog again about 2 months ago and chose to stay committed to it. Now I’m not trying to get rich or turn paid blogging into full time job but it’s nice to grab some dollars while doing something fun.

  6. I originally started my blog to make money, but now it seems I do it for the fun. I love the challenge it offers along with the freedom to share my thoughts and stories. I do hope to eventually make a decent income from blogging, but that has yet to happen. But it does open up some pretty good freelance opportunities.

  8. Becki says:

Both :) But for the amount of money I see, it’s definitely mostly for fun!

  9. I see a lot of bloggers out there who are making big money monthly and it somehow motivates me. I never cosidered of giving up, even though during my first months, I did not make money at all. I think it is all a matter of patience, hardwork and determination. It is not true that you can make BIG money overnight. It is a pure lie.
