Love Your Outbound Links and Spend It Wisely

Love Outbound LinksSince learning about DoFollow and NoFollow rules, I’m becoming more and more cautious to provide any links outside from my blog. Any links with NoFollow, I don’t mind. I can play tag games, contest, meme and link to 1,000 blogs but with NOFOLLOW tags.

By default, any link that you paste in your blog post will be DoFollow, so be wise when you post a link on your blog. Because, each time you link someone or without changing anything in HTML tag, it will be in default DoFollow. If you have heavy DoFollow links outbound from your post. You are just distributing or sharing the page rank juice with the link you post in you blog post.

So, if you want to post a link in your blog, make sure they really deserve to have the backlink from you. If it is for advertisement purpose, or something that does not deserve, please change it to NoFollow link. This way, you bucket of page rank won’t drop so fast.

Love your dofollow links and use it wisely as you spend your hard earned cash.

omg I have a lot of outgoing links in my blog, especially in some list posts I did.. maybe I should tag them no-follow. thanks for the info, it really helped:)

  2. @Sahil – the difference is very easy. Google determines pagerank based on how many backlinks a site has. Those backlinks only contain DOFOLLOW links and no NOFOLLOW links. Thus if your site gets a DOFOLLOW Link from a PR6 site, then your PageRank will improve. But if that link is NOFOLLOW then there will be no benefit as far as PageRank is concerned.

    I hope this helps.

Excellent information. Hopefully many people will see it and learn. I’ve seen so many blogs recently turning into link farms thinking that if they all link to eachother their respective pageranks will rise.

I’m using nofollow on comments but loyal commentators will get a dofollow after a several posts, non important links are nofollow as are pages that are not really that important, i’m using two plugins for these one is “NoFollow Free” and the other is “Robots Meta” at least they give some control over links etc.

Hi Atniz, So u mean those tags with links needs to change it to nofollow links as well? I think I really have to take time to use the nofollow links in my post.I haven;t applied it yet.

At this point, I’m not ranked. While I’m proud of the traffic I have been able to generate, any serious blogger wouldn’t be so proud. I do wish to build a following but I’m still really early in the game. Is there any harm in being dofollow generous at this point?

  8. Atniz,

This is what I’ve thought and read for some time, but recently I was told that I need to have outgoing links in order to demonstrate to Google that I’m part of the Internet community.

    Do you agree?

Seriously… I do not get the difference between Nofollow and Dofollow and I do not think most people care. Just like you, I am also just learning the difference.
