10 Points about Page Rank in simple words.
If you want to look for traffic, you go to Alexa or Quantcast. If you want to find out the quality of the page, you should look for page rank.
1. The higher page rank, the more sites are connected to it.
2. Traffic ranking’s range from 1 to Millions, but page rank range is only from 1 to 10.
3. Traffic ranking with lowest number (1) is the best while page rank’s best value is 10. So far, I can only find 2 sites with page rank 10, that is Google.com and W3.org
4. The more DoFollow links referred to your site from other site, the higher the page ranks of your site can get.
5. The more DoFollow links outbound from your site, the lower your page rank your site can get.
6. NoFollow links that is referred won’t reflect in page rank weight calculation.
7. Page rank update in every 3 months once. You can check with Matt Cutts blog or Google.com/webmaster help tool to find more about this update.
8. ALL PAID LINKS MUST NOT PASS PAGERANK & IF IT DOES IT CAN HAVE A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON YOUR SITE’S RANKING. Penalty can be take effect in less than a week (not 3 months) after you post paid links with passing pagerank.
9. If you want to get an instant update on any link on you posted, sign up and create an alert here.
10. Pagerank, DoFollow, NoFollow are closely related. Read more about it if you are page rank concern.

You have done a very comprehensive and informative list on the facts we need to know about Page Ranks. Very enlightening. I still have to make my blog do follow enabled. But I am not too concerned on getting back my PR 3 because I am active doing paid reviews. I am just trying to work on my traffic to make up for my PR 0.

Scotty’s Princess,
Thank you for your feedback. One of my blog also gone to PR 0 from PR 3, just after 2 weeks from doing paid posts. My suggestion is to nofollow the links in paid post and appeal back to google/webmaster. Maybe, we can regain back the lost PR. I heard from Matt Cutts that google have release Penalty on some sites during recent update. Maybe, we can get ours on next.

?5 seems stupid. Page is better when it has less links? Yeah, sure – let’s all sit in our own corner of net and link to no one.

Rarst,
This is the idea I’m sharing. If you don’t believe me. You can try to play some tag posts or give 300 list of site for your daily drops and other links in your post with dofollow. You can check your page rank is increasing or decreasing on next update.
The idea you can share your page rank juice with your friends and sites that you like. But, if you get the link back from them to you, then it is back to zero level.
I suggest you to read more about it in google/webmaster/help. You will get more clearer picture on this issue.

I do believe it (it was directed at Google, not your post). It’s only that my opinion on some of this – Google is setting rules but that doesn’t mean that their rules are perfect.
Google says it encourages writing for people, so why lots of people write for Google instead?

Thank you for the info ATNIZ. This is really helpful entry…
Anyway The higher pr i got since I started blogging was pr4. Back then my page rank was really good. all of my blog got a pr’s but now I started having a paidpost, I can’t hardly maintain my PR.
4 months ago 3 of my blog got a pr3 but Google take it back just 3 weeks ago. Oh will I know that my pr will come and go especially that I am active doing paidpost.

Thanks for the info but I want to comment in #8. My other blog is already 5 years old and I got PR of 5 but I wonder why google gave me PR2 when this blog is not accepting paid post.
Google is unpredictable, I don’t know if page ranking is real. I have owned multiple blogs and most of them are not popular but after 3 months of posting, google gave them PR3. Then after 3 months, it downs to PR2.

My PR drop from 3 to 2. But i don’t give a damn about it. Now i’m focusing more on alexa ranking. Oh it’s quite tough to get better rank. But need to study well on how to improve it.
Thanks for the points given. It helps, though..

People really shouldn’t worry about their page rank until they have enough content and then traffic. If you write something well worth people reading, they will continue to come back and they will even give you a little link love. I don’t like Google for making the rules the way that they did but this is why they are rich and I am not.

Started blogging 3 weeks ago. does a higher PR means you will appear in front of google search too?

Rarst,
I misunderstood. Sorry about that. Google don’t earn a penny from paid posts and link sold on blogs. Plus, some even misuse this function to get high PR. I think it is good if we nofollow on the links on paid review and link ads.
Ivy,
Try to nofollow on paid post links and appeal back to google. Maybe, they can give ur PR back.
Shaxx,
You’re the man. JohnChow also said the thing to me. Don’t bother about all those ranking thingy. Just concentrate on quality posts and get visitors.
Raquel,
The point no. 8 penalty is to ZERO from whatever page rank we had. Not from page rank 3 to 2. In this case, you might give high number of outgoing dofollow links (UCommentIFollow blog, permalink with dofollow, huge outgoing blogrolls with dofollow) or don’t have any incoming new backlinks to you. Try to register for google backlink alert at No.9 point and control your dofollow outbound links. I’m sure you can improve it sooner.
Moolahking,
New Alexa been more complicated. Sometimes, a glitch happened in Alexa that can boost up the traffic to such a high level and the next day it dropped back. For me, Alexa is not a good choice. I suggest Quantcast if you want to target for traffic ranking.
Gaje Master,
Page rank, traffic, etc is not important for normal bloggers. But, those who want to monetize their blog, need to do some homework on it.

Stronys,
I’m just 4 months+ into serious blogging now. From my understanding, yes it is. And it is only valid for Google Search Engine. Not valid for other search engines like Yahoo.

Hi,
There are lots of reasons really.I can only understand that Google is not giving values to paid blogging sites.I had my pagerank of 5 before when I was only new,my blog was less than a month old,no links or anything.I was shocked that time as friends told me that they never get that high rank.I’ve done paid links to that blog and it lost it’s PR.4 updates are made already and until now it’s still 0.
Thank you for the info…
Take care!

Ritchiela,
Google got the final word. I suggest you to try to remove all dofollow links from your paid posts to nofollow and the appeal. Maybe, on the 5th upgrade you can gain back what you have lost a long time ago.

Page Rank is important, but there are much other important thinkgs you should care about. Take care about oyur onsite optimization, too. It can be very important. People today care too much about their PR, just because it is visible and for much of them it is only thing wich represent value of one website. It is good to have nice PR, but other things are also important.

Especially, the advertisers are getting addicted to this PR. I just hope they will realize this soon.
