I’m sure every single country in this world are facing increasing cost of living. All this happens because of increasing crude oil price. Every single person in this world have to face this situation. What we can do about it? There is only one immediate answer. Changing your lifestyle. Below is my checklist of my changing lifestyle:
1. Once in a week eating outside (Restaurants)
- Usually, we will take dinner everyday. Lunch, I will do myself. Since, me and my husband are doing home based business, we prefer not to go out during working hours. We will always take dinner outside to get some fresh air than sitting in computer room for the whole day. Now, I have arrange to make more varieties for lunch and dinner. We are going out every alternate days to (Gurney Drive) except on Friday and Saturday.
Saving: $720
2. Go once in a week to cinema
My only entertainment is to go cinema. I watch Tamil, Hindi and English movies. Usually, me and my husband will go to cinema twice a week (Tuesday and Saturday). Tuesday is movie day and we will get half price, Saturday is holiday but we will pay full money. So, I have decided to go cinema only once in a week, that is on Tuesday.
Saving: $140
3. Bulk Purchasing
Instead of purchasing monthly household necessaries, I have started to purchase any product for at least 6 months supply. I tried contacting the wholesaler and get higher discount on bulk purchases. I could save about 15 – 20% off from retail value. Most of the time, I will survey and compare the hypermarkets value and weekly special prices items. The items include dairy products, coffee, sugar, baby pampers, coffee/milo/horlicks/tea, detergent, dish wash, breakfast items, etc. Make sure to check the expiry date before choosing any long term stock items. Using this method, we will fork out huge amount during initial phase, but the following six months you will be amazed on the amount you spend each month.
Savings: $200
4. Changing my car to NGV
Natural gas is another alternative for petrol usage and the cost per liter is just $0.68 compared to petrol $2.70. Monthly, I’m using about 300 liters for my MPV. Right now using NGV method, my usage is almost same (300 liters per month).
Saving: $600
5. Use alternate source of energy.
For water heater and outdoor night lights. I’m saving about 20% of my electricity per month using solar power energy saver method. This is costly, but since I’m staying in apartment, I could not use it. I’m looking for a property purchase by next year. I’m sure that solar power will be installed in my new landed property.
What’s your lifestyle chaining checklist? Post it on your blog. Let’s share it to the world.
So far, I have saved $720 + $140 + $200 + $600 = $1660 monthly.
What is your steps of saving? Please share it here as I am willing to add me checklist to save more each month.
